Parrot on cucurbits by Franz Werner von Tamm (1658-1724)
Ok so I've been thinking this for so long and i wanted to consult a professional so cucumbers right are they a fruit and if they are, are they the love child of watermelons and lettuce that got weirdly stretched?
Oh, I am like an expert on cucumbers! They're my favorite thing to put on sandwiches!
Yeah, I do believe cucumbers are a fruit belonging somewhere in the melon family, but more closely related to pumpkin or squash, if I'm not mistaken.
@lemonsdabirb That... is an interesting question.
I will have to honestly admit that I am torn. I probably would never think of ordering it, but now I really want to taste a slice and see how I like it! XD
Fasciated female pattypan squash flower. Despite hand pollinating, unfortunately it never developed on into a squash fruit.

Zephyr zucchini (courgette) blossoming on an aeroponic Tower Garden @agrotonomy 💚💛 This variety of zucchini is high-yielding and features a really unique appearance with distinctive, slender fruits that are yellow with light-green ends. The flavor of this zucchini is the sweetest we’ve ever tried! 😋 Edible Flowers 🌻: Blossoms of this zucchini variety bear a mild, squash-like flavor and are great stuffed, fried, or sliced that you can use in soups, salads, and pasta dishes.
The Kiwanos are flowering! (Cucumis metuliferus)
Looks like these have yellow flowers as well like the vast majority of cucurbits I’ve seen.
For now it’s just male flowers so I can’t pollinate anything yet. Next week hopefully!
From Today’s Outing: The Spotted Cucumber Beetle
...This shiny boy did NOT want his picture taken. Perhaps he was afraid I would use it for a Wanted Poster. His species loves to eat cucurbits, including squash, pumpkins and (you guessed it) cucumbers. This one was minding his own business in a fallow field that is earmarked for the planting of our dearly departed and NOT cucumbers, but you can imagine his distress at my interest.
