Awkward kiss! Oh man, probably a good half of their kisses have to be kind of awkward.

After they go public, nearly a year after Bitty’s been living in Providence with Jack and the whole team knows and does their best to hide it from reporters, the internet and the news channels and the fans get a little...interested. It’s nice, in a way, because most of the people asking Jack what his favorite feature of Bitty’s is or Bitty’s favorite color aren’t tacking on you disgusting homosexuals at the end, so that’s a positive.

But it’s a lot of attention, which Jack usually does his best to avoid, and it upends their quiet life for a while. It’s worth it, though, to be able to hold hands outside the apartment and say “my boyfriend” instead of “my roommate” like they’re still back in the Haus.

They’re at the NHL awards, where Jack’s up for the Masterson, a fact that makes him feel uncomfortable but in a good sort of way, mostly, and Jack’s been told firmly that he has to do the red carpet thing. He would’ve anyway, because it’s the first time he can bring Bitty with him, and he’s not above wanting to show him off. The press gets pretty wild when they show up, and even Bitty looks a little stricken by it.

“Kiss!” Someone yells. Jack shifts, not sure what to do or say, and Bitty’s cheeks go pink.

“Come on!” Someone else encourages. “Other guys are kissing their girlfriends!”

Maybe if they do it the reporters will stop yelling. Jack puts an arm around Bitty’s waist and pulls him in. Bitty wasn’t anticipating it and bumps into Jack’s chest, then accidentally elbows Jack as he tries to stand upright again.

#4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

Ahh man, this one is tough! It’s such a long fic! And not to toot my own horn too loudly or anything, but I think I had some genuinely laugh-out-loud lines in there. Hm. An obvious choice is the ending line for the first chapter: “You know, I think we will,” Steve tells her, eyes locked with Bucky. “We just got engaged.” I just think it really sets the tone for the whole fic and, if I do say so myself, is a very Skinny!Steve reaction.

“What the hell?” Steve asks to nobody in particular as he reads the pageant bulletin--NEW THIS YEAR: KISSING COMPETITION.

He goes on stage dressed only in a pair of glittering red, white, and blue booty shorts to meet his kissing competitor: Bucky Barnes, his arch rival.

“It’s okay, Stevie,” Bucky says as Steve approaches, devilish charming smile creeping up his beautiful face, “I bite.”
