DAY ONE (of a 3-day prayer)
Went back to the crossroads altar this morning to see how things were going. Not only were all the candles still lit but nothing had made off with the Santa Muerte figurine over the night.Â

Here is the crossroads at my cemetery. Here is the tree Lilith's owl arrives at each dusk to hear prayers to the All-Mother. I love this little sacred spot.
Here is my art project for tonight: five votive candles and a praying skeleton. The craft store in my town apparently put out all their Halloween bling over the weekend, which is good for my attempts at making Santa Muerte statues since skeleton figurines are almost impossible to find in West Michigan. Curiously they had several in different yoga poses so I got this one seated in prayer because it looked cool. Unfortunately it is made of some odd plastic that paint doesn't adhere to all that easily ... not even the super-glue I used to hold the hair, flower and butterfly in place. I liked the idea of the butterfly representing the soul and pink hair is awesome.
DAY THREE (of a 3-day prayer)
Each evening I return to the cemetery crossroads to care for the candles burning on the little spot of ground I use as an altar.Â
I was there last night around 11 o’clock and all seemed right in the world. I arrived at 7 this morning and during the time that I was away someone with ill will had come along to knock down all the candles and break Her in half …
This is the second time the altar has been destroyed and while I have no problem assuming that one of the religious nut-jobs in the neighborhood was out walking his dog and did this, as much as I love this particular crossroads and the tree where Lilith’s owls appear I have no interest in having it happen a third time in so many months (plus they stole the tuning fork I use after each prayer) ... I need to find a new location =/
