Zed looks up to Doc. Not just because he is an actual doctor of medicine as opposed to someone who only knows science from those kits for children, but because he is also an ovine hybrid. Sure, Zed is a sheep hybrid and Doc is a... actually, what is he?
Anyways, the first time they met, Zed challenged him to a headbutting contest. Up to this point, the only hermits he had headbutted were Tango and Impulse. Impulse had horns so Zed could be a little rougher with him. Tango didn't, so Zed had to be softer, often using it in a less playful, more affectionate way.
Zed largely underestimated Doc.
For starters, Doc is much larger than Zed. Second, he is made of metal.
Do you see where the story is going?
Sparring the boring details, Zed learned something that day but was too concussed to remember what it was.
Tango and Impulse are pretty good at keeping Zed from the concussion zone but It doesn't always work.

Doc is part creeper, yes, but it's always assumed that the other half of his genetics is from a player.
It is not. Creepers are plants, you see, and plants hybridizing is a lot more common than mammals doing it.
Doc is genetically 50% creeper, 50% tomato. The two legs? The sapience? The inability to explode? All of those are due to his strange combo of chromosomes.
Since creepers are crepuscular (most active in the morning and evening, like a cat) Doc’s entire perception of time is just fundamentally off. Like a 2 PM server meeting to him is unreasonably early, who decides this stuff?
WARNING for body horror elements. The worst of it is below the cut.
The poisoning takes shape differently for everyone. It slowly replaces you, taking over your body till you are a part of the machine. Before redstone was known to be a toxin, it was used in all sorts of household items. Fortunately, it's not toxic if you don't come in direct contact with the dust. Which is only fortunate for those who don't...
There are preventative measures that can be taken. Avoiding contact with the dust directly by making sure skin is covered by gloves. Goggles can prevent any getting into the eyes, and a mask prevents it from invading the respiratory system. As well as drinking more water and washing yourself off after contact. There's been PSAs over the dangers over time, but they came too late for those who discovered those dangers to begin with.
The first symptoms are often small. Blood that seems brighter than usual, or maybe glitters. Joints that feel stiff, or skin that's hard when pressed down on. Players often suffer nausea or headaches as their body attempts to fight off the poison. At this stage, it can be treated. Many of the hermits, in fact, helped pioneer these treatments. But their experience came at a cost.
Doc: when he received his cybernetics he had to go through a whole process of Redstone safety when it can access your bloodstream. Thankfully, due to the fact he's a creeper and needs very different minerals than human players, he can get away with more Redstone in his system than anyone else. It's a necessary evil, so he'll pretend those wires don't seem to be a tiny bit longer than when they were first installed...
Mumbo: Having come in contact with redstone at such a young age, Mumbo became an example of the dangers. His veins pulse red and glow an ambient light. His eyes reflect light in the dark as if he were something entirely inhuman. His skin crumbles like dust, leaving behind scrapes which glitter with the dust. He's found himself reacting to sculk sensors, and severely affected by lag, sometimes causing his movements to rubber band or repeat.
Tango: He was one of the first players to work with redstone, making watches and clocks. Similar to Mumbo, he used no protection at all. So the poisoning slowly replaced him, until he was encased in metal. It was too risky to try and remove the poison at the stage, so with Tango's consent, they chose to work with what they had. He's now adapted to work with the redstone, which Tango thinks is pretty cool. He does make sure Zed is always wearing his protection, though.
Etho: Despite Etho's history with redstone, the only thing outwardly changed is his eye. No, Etho's symptoms run deep. They're only revealed when he's injured, and doesn't bleed at all. Instead, looking into the wound will reveal the mangled wires and components, twitching and pulsing. Etho's found his connection with redstone is so strong, now, that he can sense it sometimes beneath the surface.

doc's a creeper
is he softer like a bush or prickly like a cactus.
Soft fur is a great way to quiet sound so that creepers can, well, creep! Doc is quite proud of his fur, and maybe a little vain about keeping it soft - especially since not many people ever get close enough to touch it.
Some hcs: Glare Hybrid Bdubs, Avian False and Wels (they're siblings your honor), goat-creeper-fairy Doc and Stress just gets magical plant fairy (or ice in season 6) because they are siblings your honor. Gem is part moose because it's about the TRANS HEADCANONS and TFC is a troll. Like an actual one. And also you know haha funny laughs oddly when people are above him. Because trolls "dwell in isolated areas of rocks, mountains or caves"
Glare Hybrid Bdubs: He tries to hide the fact that he's scared of the dark. He wasn't before he became a hybrid, but he is now! The very thought of the darkness pushing in on him sends shivers rustling through his leaves; all sorts of monsters hiding, just waiting to take a bite out of him.
Avian False and Wels: When people see the pair of Kingfisher Avians, they assume they are siblings. Neither of them particularly object to this, but they aren't related - just happen to be the same bird family! It is fun to mess with people sometimes, though. (Sorry, i'm just not a huge fan of sibling HCs, and I just don't se it)
Goat-Fairy-Creeper Doc: Sure, Doc's messed with things he absolutely should not have before. But this one's a bit annoying. How was he supposed to know that being a plant based monster wouldn't protect him from the Vex being weird? Yeah ok that really shouldn't have surprised him. Scara is a thing that exists. But being a creeper Fawn is just a bit too weird, even for him.
Ice queen/Plant Fairy Stress: The ice queen is something that goes around the Hermitcraft server. It came with Stress from her home world and has stuck around the server ever since. She's more than happy to let Etho have the ice title, maybe False this season! Stress, she's a flower fairy. And quite good at gardening if she does say so herself! She puts in extra effort to have her bases feel like home.
Moose Gem: BIG. Moose are far bigger than one would think. Gem's the tallest hermit. Doc is slightly jealous that his position was taken.
Troll TFC: There's a reason 90% of TFC's time is spent underground. He's a troll. And while touching the sun won't turn him to stone... right away. It doesn't feel good. At all. Like a very bad sunburn. Some of the hermits got him an umbrella, but how's he supposed to hold that and a pickaxe?
