Trigger warning???

so this one's about when I was in class 3 and oh my ,my brother and I whenever we went to a mall would internally think that escalators were some kind of ride,so, we would go on it without any reason, me and my mother would be scared a little but my brother and father wouldn't ,my father would first take my brother down the escalator then me and then my mother...So as always we were going to do the same thing but this time when taking my brother with him he extended a hand gesturing me to come too,so I accepted it and just as I put my leg at the escalator my mother grabbed me from behind resulting in ,I lost my balance AND FELL ON THE STAIRS ,big fat tears streaming from my eyes I was extending my hand for my mother to grab but she wasn't able to , AND I WAS SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS ,my father ran up the escalator and picked me up...

After we came out of the mall no one could figure out if I was crying or Laughing ...even I don't know if I was crying or laughing

I Remember thousands of people in that mall staring at me as I exited the mall ,half of me crying because of the embarrassment pulling me down the earth and the other half of me trying to process what just happened and laughing at the experience ALL AT THE SAME Time

I like to tell this story again and again because how funny it was, and laughing at my trauma is the best way to cope with it for me

And trust me ,after this traumatic real life nightmarish moments of my life ,you wouldn't see me anywhere near to this beast, so called escalator

This really got me thinking. My mum had just sent the Mitsubishi salon car for servicing (and it really was in dire need of one). All she was left with was the two-seater van that is used in supplying eggs (and that could use some servicing too). I had not given it a thought but I had assumed she was going to take my younger siblings to school for their vacation classes.

She woke up from sleep and as though she had woken up from a nightmare, she said they might have to go to school on their own. Let me explain what this meant – they had to get dressed, walked through the already soaking wet ground, wrestle their 12 year old and 6 year old scrawny bodies to get on to a bus… mind you, it was early in the morning and people were rushing to work too.

Was I disturbed? Of course I was disturbed, greatly disturbed. Suddenly, I started to imagine all the bad things that could possibly happen to them on their own. CSI just wouldn’t give me a break. All the gruesome scenes just came flashing from all the “I was murdered” and the CSI television programs I stay feasting on for hours nonstop.  

 My mum was concerned that using the van was going mean consuming a lot more fuel (especially with the way prices of fuel are getting crazy high here in Ghana) when she could pay less if they simply joined a bus to school. She called my little brother and gave him two options. I was angry but I was stopped in my tracks when my brother very excitedly chose to join the bus. He didn’t stop there. He went on to give reasons why taking the bus was a better option. I was surprised and somewhat angry. They were going to get killed… or hurt… or lost… or … or whatever!

I walked away to go take a warm shower. As I busily scrubbed my body, I heard a shrill voice singing. The song was about how ‘trotro’ was better and much more exciting than being in your mum’s car. What?? He got me thinking. He got me really thinking.

I stepped out of the bathroom and could not help but ask him why he was so excited about taking ‘trotro’. “I have never taken ‘trotro’ on my own before and I am excited to see how it will be”, he said enthusiastically.
