I used to be a pathological liar. It started innocently enough, with a joke that was misunderstood. And then I just wanted to be liked so I kept it up. I had panic attacks about to make it stop. And it finally stopped. But I still have to fight the urge to not make dumb immaterial lies sometimes.

And to a certain extent, I feel you. I don’t recall exactly how it started but most likely it was from my insecurity/low self-esteem and the need to fit in. My primary school years were miserable as hell and those lies were one of the reasons. It can started with one lie but oftentimes more are needed to keep up appearance and things just get more tangled and harder to get out of, I guess.
The point is, kudos to you for continuing to fight that impulse. I think white lies are fine and I (and also people, I assume) tell them all the time. As long as you can control it or making efforts to do so, you’re doing a great job! :) Way to go, anon! <3
