KYSAN’S TOP 25 ALBUMS OF 2018 - ADVENT CALENDAR COUNTDOWN
#19: Tell Me How You Really Feel - Courtney Barnett
Folk/Rock
Courtney Barnett is LITERALLY my favourite Australian lesbian. Sometimes I Just Sit And Think was one of my favourite albums of 2015, and her latest album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, is an excellent follow-up. This album doesn’t have as much of the raw power as her last album, and it sees Courtney taking more of an introspective path in her songwriting as opposed to the aggressive and sarcastic style of writing that we saw in songs like Pedestrian At Best, but I really like that. Songs like Need A Little Time show a softer side to her lyricism that is really refreshing and nice to hear, and it’s really nice because even though it’s (for lack of a better word) cheesier and closer to the heart, I think there are moments on this album where Courtney’s signature wit and style still manages to come through like in the lead single and catcaller-callout Nameless Faceless, or the aptly-named I’m Not Your Mother, I’m Not Your Bitch. But all the same, if you listened to Depreston off her last album, you’ll really like most of this, as that’s kind of the vibe she’s going for, except more elevated.
Listen to these!: Charity, Need A Little Time, Walking On Eggshells

#19: Party For One - Carly Rae Jepsen
Pop
You guys literally have no idea how excited I am for a new Carly album oh my god
Carly honestly never fails to deliver. What I think is particularly fascinating is how she’s handling her content now that she’s evolved into the gay icon status that she is, considering her last major release was before all that happened. But Anyways, the song is really interesting, and honestly KIND of a departure from her previous stuff! I’ll admit, this song took a second to grow on me! But it’s catchy as hell, has some great and classic pop grooves, the shimmering synth in the post-chorus hooks you in, and the counter-rhythm that Carly sings in the verses are really fun to listen to. It’s classic Carly but with a twist, and it’s got me super hype for her new stuff next year.

Loving the marketing for Countdown this year. How cool are these graphics?Â
This is the 5th annual Countdown and it’s taking place at the NOS Events Center in San Bernadino, CA on Monday, Dec 31. Wow, what a weekend of partying we’re going to have for New Years this year!
30 artists will perform across four new extraterrestrial stages: The Mothership, The Nebula, Area 51 and Twilight Zone. Tickets for the most out of this world New Year’s Eve celebration will be available on Friday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. PST at CountdownNYE.com.
Last year more than 78,000 headliners attended Countdown, think you’ll go this year? I’ve never been, and I’ll be out of town or I would consider going!

This is an example when Eurovision voting sucks. If only the televote was switched with Israel and Cyprus had won. I’m not bitter in anyway. It just would have been lovely to see a new country win the Eurovision instead of one who had seen victory before. Who doesn’t want to see Cyprus, Iceland, Malta, Slovenia, Bosnia etc. win for the first time? The opportunity was there and now it is gone.
Eleni was the one that surprised me this Eurovision. I did not expect that she was going to be able to sing this song. Nor did I think that she was going to come out with that choreography. Not did I think that she was going to appear with a garment that was painted on her skin like that. And all together, they had the performance of the song contest. It had seduction, cohesion, humour, exaggeration, charisma and fire everywhere. Some people mentioned that it looked like a clone of another performer’s choreography. Eleni provided a sexy performance which was fierce, but also enough. That other person would have made it vulgar.
