#cottonballs

Remembering the time that @grohiik-sil ran a tabletop campaign where powers were connected to appearance and personalities where I played as a healer.  And I didn’t know what a healer would look like so I made a seven foot tall wooly marsupial with a lady face and hands since I was considering both the Aunt Beast from A Wrinkle in Time and the internal fantasy scene in Scrubs where JD imagined comforting a lady with a room of cottonballs.  So why not a big wooly ladybeast?  Turns out she isn’t comforting at all and actually is terrifying which is why I powered her with the ability to make people feel calm or love or sleep.

She had literally no fighting ability.  At all.  Despite being seven foot tall.  And while I played her as severely anxious and reclusive - she was also the only fairly reasonable adult on the team so she somehow often became the party leader.  Despite having severe anxiety due to being raised in isolation her whole life.  And the love power frequently having to be used to make villains fall in love with her to keep the party safe despite her being aromantic and asexual.

In the first fight she was set up to be pretty damn useless...or so I thought.  She couldn’t fight right?  Well we fought some fucking trees made of butterflies that attacked us.  Should have been easy but every other party member was a band of chaotic messes who weren’t achieving anything.  The pyromaniac child in the group set fire to a tree for instance and was just watching it burn instead of fighting.

My character had to straight up copy  the scene where Desire kills Delirium’s butterflies in the Sandman comics.  I made the butterflies fall in love with the firey tree and won the whole battle...
