A Guide to CotBS Roles Pt. 1
Leaders: The leaders of DriftClan and TideClan act similarly to the leaders of the first canon arc. They do not interact with their clanmates an extensive amount, and are usually stern cats whose role is to not be a parent figure to the clan, but to be a noble leader and a disciplinarian when necessary. There are a few exceptions to this, as personalities of leaders do vary. Some will be spotted with normal warriors more often than others, but the consensus is that leaders are regal and distinct from the rest of their clan. For this reason, both male and female leaders are able to have kits without judgement, for they can still lead and discipline from their nests. They go by the suffix “-moon.”
Tellers: Though there is only one teller at a time, the lifespan of the Teller of the Rippling Waves is usually much shorter than that of clan leaders. A teller is usually the complete opposite of a clan leader -- they have only one life, they interact with their clan on a much more frequent and personal level, and often act as the wiser party in most interactions. Tellers have frequently helped clan leaders out with clan issues when leaders need advice, and they are often much more transparent and willing to help the clans of other territories than clan leaders are.
Primary Medicine Cats: Just as it sounds, a primary medicine cat is the medicine cat that is most frequently called forward to deal with a big problem. A primary medicine cat typically has more experience than any other medicine cat in the clan, and is often the one with the apprentice. Though Leafpool and Jayfeather were full medicine cats in canon at the same time, Leafpool would be considered the primary medicine cat in the CotBS universe. They are unable to have kits like in canon, and can be punished by death or banishment upon becoming a parent. They go by the suffix “-flora.”
Secondary Medicine Cats: Though these cats are fully-fledged medicine cats, they do not have the experience that might render them a primary medicine cat. It is rare for a secondary medicine cat to be able to cure anything that the primary and more experienced could not, though like in the case of Cinderpelt curing Littlecloud in canon when Yellowfang could not, this is not entirely unheard of. There are various suffixes that these cats can go by, listed in the official CotBS archive.
Story tellers: This is a role that is unique to CotBS. A story teller can become apprenticed straight from kithood or even after completing warrior training, as a talent for story telling can show itself at any time in a cat’s life. The role of a story teller is to keep an encyclopedic memory containing the most important stories and legends of the clans, including how the clans formed, various battles between clans and the Tribe, and even stories that predate the Tribe. Some stories are no doubt exaggerated or untrue, but it is the role of the story teller to pass down integral information to the next generations exactly as they heard it.
