It was something he tried not to think about.

But this…!

“How are you faring? Have the denizens treated you well?”

Cosmos stared down at his servos, thumbs fidgeting around one another as he gazed pointedly not at Soundwave. (He was too embarrassed to look straight at him!) He had been surprised when Soundwave had come knocking at his quarters, not expecting to see much of Soundwave outside formal meetings. So he felt the terrified squeak he had let loose at the sight of him was completely justified!

His spark thumped against his chest plating.

“Y-Yeah, I mean… they haven’t been mean, if that’s what you’re asking.”

A warm servo suddenly landed on Cosmos’ shoulder and his helm spun to stare up at Soundwave in surprise. And then he made the mistake of looking into Soundwave’s visor. His intakes stopped and his servos clenched each other tight, spark thundering loudly beneath his chest plate. Heat rose quickly and it was then he realized the way he was reacting, highly embarrassed and struggling to keep his cooling fans from turning on.

“That is good to hear. I do not want you to feel that you are unwelcome.” The servo squeezed gently, sending bolts of molten lava down to settle funnily in his tank. He couldn’t look away as the red of Soundwave’s visor slithered in and around his chest cavity, making it incredibly hard to breathe. “But if that ever changes, I want you to inform me immediately. Some aboard this station do not have as much control as I.”

And suddenly the funny feelings were forgotten as his temper quickly took hold of those words. “Hey I can defend myself just fine!” A servo was fisted on his hips and the other pointing accusingly into Soundwave’s chest plating. “I did hold my own against you after all!” The thought that Soundwave thought he couldn’t defend himself was infuriating!

And he would have stayed infuriated had Soundwave not took hold of his servo and pulled it back, unbalancing Cosmos and forcing him to grab hold the mech to steady himself. “I know.” Oh Primus, they were practically chassis to chassis. “But I want you to trust me.” Cosmos thought he would offline right there as Soundwave’s other servo came up to caress his face plate. “Trust in me and let me protect you.”

A small whine of distress escaped Cosmos as his cooling fans kicked on full force, unable to look away as he practically combusted from heat overload. “I…ummmm…” What was he supposed to say?! He couldn’t think this close to Soundwave! “…I...o-okay, I guess.”

Just as Cosmos started to think being so close to Soundwave wasn’t so bad after all, he was released, leaving him feeling strangely empty and longing as the commucation’s mech stepped away. “That is all I ask.”

Cosmos was feeling quite awkward and overwhelmed at the whole scenario so it was a relief when Soundwave seemingly got a comm and turned his gaze to look in a different direction. He was just managing to gather his thoughts when Soundwave addressed him again.

“I’m sorry, but I must take my leave. Would you like me to escort you back to your quarters?”

His frame jumped and as Cosmos looked back up into Soundwave’s visor, he found it was much easier to do so, magnetic even. Warm.

…that strange flip-flopping in his tank was back again.

…and he should probably answer before Soundwave thought he had glitched.

“OH! Uh, no it’s okay! I’m fine! I can find my way fine!”

Cosmos stood there for a while as he watched Soundwave walk away, still not quite sure what to do with himself after such an encounter. It was only when the sun started to peek through the window that Cosmos realized he had been standing there for maybe a little too long and ran as fast as he could back to his berth.

He didn’t want to come out ever again.

“See what did we tell ya?”

“He’s got it baaaaaad~.”

Soundwave settled back in to his office as Buzzsaw and Laserbeak flew around above him. The events of the past hour stewing in his processor, images of Cosmos face and reactions running over and over again as he analyzed each twitch and nuance. He had been a bit skeptical at first, but the truth had quickly become clear the longer he stayed around the mech.

It was…an interesting change; unexpected, but not…off putting. He was actually quite curious about where taking this would go.
