Welcome to DinApril 2026, where instead of recycling my list from last year, I made my father come up with the dinosaurs! Our sixteenth day features a dinosaur that can use tools: Corvus brachyrhynchos! A female American crow has, in a reference to this experiment, figured out how to solve an Aesop's task apparatus to get a cheese puff. Two males commentate in the background.

I was having trouble coming up with something for this prompt until I found the aforementioned paper, which talked about how female American crows are more likely to use tools than males. The ensuing commentary on gender roles was the logical conclusion.

Robes sweep the floor, and the king takes their seat. "So. Clearly this meeting is important, you feel angry." Most would comment on the scent of anger, but it's nigh impossible for another to scent the anger under the positive aura unless they know Delphinium well. 

"You know well why I am angry." Gold-tipped cape turns to gesturing wing, many eyes glaring golden into the king's darkness. 

"Now, now, is that my fault? I am simply staking my claim over what I see fit to, dearest... Mm, what is that name you use... Larkspur." Its smile curls cruelly. It knows that isn't the right name. Neither is Delphinium, after all, but mortals aren't allowed to know of Aurous, Fallen Guardian of Positivity, alongside Alaric, Shattered Guardian of Negativity. 

"Delphinium," sol corrects with a hiss, venom on solar tongue, long fingers curling into fists on the table. "You know better, and it is your fault. Are we not supposed to keep a balance, here?" 

"Dear, dear..." Acacia shifts tongues, a low, discordant hum filling the room that only Delphinium can interpret. "The multiverse will sway and succumb to darkness as all does, as day does to night, as sparks fall silent, as flames consume themselves. This you must know for yourself, Aurous." 

Four eyes narrow, lower wings lifting behind an already intimidating figure as a higher hum layers over the original sound, and the others in the room put their hands to their skulls as the air sings the broken, disfigured tune that once would have been soothing. "As night turns to day and shifting frees sparks to brighten flame, as darkness is fragile against light. There is always a balance, one cannot exist without the other." 

With that they both fall silent, and in one seat a doodle shakes itself, lines wobbling before solidifying with a small 'pop!'. "Why try and hold a balance in a place like this? I mean, the multiverse is a mess, what is positivity and negativity anyway, it's all just a bunch of nonsense. And if you're gonna rattle my skull like that again leave me out of it, haha." 

"Silence yourself, Doodleboy," snaps the king, gaze snapping to the now-steady lines of Artemis. "I wouldn't expect you to understand something so delicate." 

"Mmm, suit yourself bossman," he shrugs, laughing and munching on his frozen paint snack. 

"Don' understand how ya eat that," Corvid mutters, side-eyeing Artemis as a raven hops on his shoulder, wings fluttering lightly. Artemis shrugs, then takes a comically large bite out of it, much to Corvid's dismay. 

"Anyway," Delphinium speaks up, drawing Acacia's attention again, "the balance should be maintained, and I'm going to have to ask that you stand down, lest another battle become necessary." 

Welcome to DinApril 2024! Our sixteenth day features a dinosaur that can use tools: Corvus moneduloides! This male is very proud of his tool, which is a stick. This meme format is still relevant, right?

The New Caledonian crow is the only dinosaur out there that we can safely say is able to invent tools and share them with its family group, in addition to making compound tools by sticking up to four sticks together. Clearly a purveyor of the Long Stick™.
