To all my Christian witches out there
Anyone ever told you that you gonna be burnin' in hell because of your practice? That magic(k) is devil worship and you shouldn't be messing with it because it offends God? Well, LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING.
There is this Polish book series called "The Corredo Shine" ("Blask Corredo" on Polish, it's a literal translation, I'm afraid these books were not translated to any language, unfortunately) and it's basically a fantasy series about a young woman who was raised on one of the Orphan Islands, where the very strict, all-female staff called the Instructors teach them art and crafts so that they can successfully make a living as artists in adulthood. The main character discovers that the Instructors are actually evil beings who know about the magical land of Corredo but hide it from the world because they themselves no longer have access to it, therefore they don't want anyone else to experience its beauty.
It's a very poor synopsis but that's all I can say without spoiling the plot. Maybe only that there's also a love story and aristocratic family drama involved.
BUT THE POINT IS that this series has been published by a Catholic publishing company, in charge of which are the Dominican friar. Pretty sick, huh? But wait! There's more. There is an interview with a monk from this friar, and the journalist asks him how is it possible that a Christian friar supports a series of books about magic.
AND HERE'S WHAT HE SAID: "I will not be convinced that magic is evil. It is simply another way of telling God's story, of presenting the struggle of good and evil."
If you want to see the interview, here it is, but be warned, it's in Polish: https://youtu.be/oOhnY0UFfG4
I just wanted to drop it here as an argument for y'all to use against all the uneducated folk who will smack-talk you for your practice. Reasonable Christians recognize magic and don't condemn it just for its existence.
Also, I plan on translating the 5 books of the series by myself as a language practice, because as I said, it has not been done and the series is so good that it should be known to a wider public.
Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk.
