Since looking at the intricacies of the old Gundam design, I've wanted to try doing my own take on it. I got overzealous with the torso and Core Fighter, though.
First project in picoCAD2, a core fighter. Modeling in picoCAD came right back to me, took me a bit to understand how to handle meshes for animation. The pivot point location is very important.
I love core fighters
I can throw the rest of the kit away, this is all I need
£40 well spent
Next review: MG RX-78-2 Gundam Version 3.0!!!
I don’t know where to begin with this kit. I’ve owned it for years and it’s always been a shelf warmer in my backlog. Then I watched ‘Ready Player One’ and all of a sudden I had to build it. And I put as much effort into it as I could. I painted a lot of the details, added all the decals and spent the better end of a week putting it together.
All said and done this kit has surprised me. It holds together extremely well for something with so many layers of pieces clipped together to resemble the life size statue. The core fighter may just be a remold of the ver. 2.0 but it still looks stellar;
I even felt Amuro needed a paint jot to really make this thing come alive.
While it doesn’t come with all the Gundam’s accessories, it does have all its primary ones. The bazooka, beam rifle and beam sabers are all nicely detailed and fit really well in its hands. It takes a bit of work to get the Gundam to hold them in a good pose, but it’s not as difficult as other kits using the same hands.
I give this kit 10/10, I absolutely love it and if you get one you will too!

Decided to make a separate post to showcase the included core fighter for the RG RX-78-2 Gundam. This is also because I have no effective means of posing it in flight. It can be in fact inserted into the main body of the Gundam, but to be honest I’d rather not bother messing around with that gimmick myself. Detailing and color seperation is nice as it has the four Gatling gun portholes on the nose of the core fighter, as well as the panel lining indicating where the concealed missile launchers are, as indicated by the red marking on the top back on either side.
