#Repost @bodyconnectionltd with @get_repost ・・・ The Roll Over is one of those exercises that Joseph Pilates saw as stimulating the spine. It does involve a lot of spinal articulation, and the only way to control that is to use your abdominal muscles. #Benefits : To stretch the lower back and hamstrings; develop spinal articulation and improve control of the abdominal muscles. Note: if you have a bad neck or lower back, leave this exercise out. Remember, roll over goes only as far as the shoulders. It does not roll up onto the neck. • Keep your upper body glued to the mat- avoid rolling onto the neck * Don’t use momentum to roll over; use abdominals * Palms press into mat, arms long throughout. Hands can be placed above head for a challenge, maintaining control * Shoulders are stable on the roll down. #Bodyconnection#pilates#fullyequippedstudio#est2003#pilatesmat#reformer#stabilitychair#cadillac#core#pilatesbody#trx#spinning#barre#stretch#controlology#inhale#exhale#pilateslife#pilateslove#nassaubahamas#242#shirleystreet

Control
At some point, most of us turn our thoughts to uninhabited islands, more specifically being able to exist on one – alone. The prospect of being in a defined space where all that happens is decided by you, where external forces cannot reach and the time spent there yields incredible personal benefit, is well, the stuff of fantasy. Or not. Not actually. I have access to one and can escape to it at…

State Power and the Meaning of Crime: Controlology
Came across these excerpts in my reading this evening in my class's textbook, Vold's Theoretical Criminology:
Criminal justice agencies are part of a much broader range of social control mechanisms, including welfare, mental health, education, and the mass media, all of which are used by the state for the purposes of controlling "problem" populations. In 1979, Ditton introduced the term controlology to refer to this group of theories.
Controlology can relate to radical mental health. Mental note to check out this theory and see how it may apply. Start with Ditton's Controlology: Beyond the New Criminology (1979).
The foundation of this group of theories was built by Michel Foucault, a French philosopher. In his work Madness and Civilization, Foucault argued that seemingly more humane mental institutions had replaced the apparently more coercive prisons in modern societies as the central instrument of state control. This movement was packaged and sold by the state as a more humane, enlightened, reasonable response to deviance, but Foucault argued it was actually a way to expand the scope of state control and the subtlety with which that control could be operated.
Instead of being directed at the body of the offender through physical torture and execution, state control was redefined as "rehabilitation" and directed at the souls and minds of offenders.
Also check out Foucault's Madness and Civilization: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason (New York: Mentor, 1967). May be a good option for Mind(ful) Liberation Project's radical mental health lending library.
Social control itself, and state control in particular, is an important topic for scientific theory and research. It is not sufficient to say, as many people do, that the state's efforts to control deviants are appropriate and functional and natural and should be viewed as a given in every society. Second, the state attempts to maintain its legitimacy by packaging its control efforts so that they appear to be reasonable, humane, and necessary. But always hidden within this "velvet glove" is an iron fist whose ultimate goal is to control troublesome populations. In particular, there are always specific groups who pursue their own economic and political agendas in the context of these social control functions, usually at the expense of other, less powerful groups. Third, the broad range of social control activities all are ultimately directed and manipulated by the state, even when some aspects of them, such as the mass media, are technically outside state jurisdiction. Fourth, these various state control mechanisms therefore have a general unity, despite their appearance of diversity. That is, ultimately all the various state control mechanisms just mentioned work in a coherent way to achieve widespread control over the entire society.
