***********************************************************************************
Alec walked through the woods with hurried steps, his hood raised, covering his face. He wasnât supposed to be there and if anyone saw what he was, a shadowhunter, heâd be dead within seconds. This was downworlder territory, if they saw him heâd never stand a chance. The downworld and the shadowhunters had been at war for ages, a bloody war. 18 years ago the war almost came to an end, neither side made any progress, they lost more than they gained. However, the war was now more alive than ever. It was all due to Valentine Morgenstern, the current leader of the Clave and shadowhunters. According to him, the downworlders was attacking innocent mundanes, turning them into downworlders. The news caused panic among the shadowhunters, thankfully Valentine had the solution, to start recruiting mundanes, adopting children and recruiting good fighters. Itâs just that, Alec wasnât so sure that Valentine was right, not anymore. Heâd been told that downworlders didnât turn mundanes on purpose, he just didnât know who to trust. It was war and everyone told lies, Alec thought that neither side was right, maybe one side once had been but now, it was just unnecessary bloodshed. Theyâre even hurting mundanes, the ones theyâre supposed to protect.
Lost in thought Alec almost walked straight into the huge black door. He stopped before hitting the door and he took a quick step back, his heart beating fast, this was a risk, he was early. He knocked on the door, five rapid knocks. He always used that knock to signal who it was. Within seconds the door was open by Magnus Bane, one of the most powerful warlocks in the world. Oh, and also the most beautiful, sexy, man Alec had ever laid eyes on. Today he was dressed in a deep blue shirt with black chinos with two gold strands from the hip, down to his ankle. The shirt wasnât buttoned all the way up, revealing his chest, causing Alec to lick his lips. Magnus looked at Alec with a confused face.
âIs anyone else in there?â Alec whispered, his eyes moving all over Magnus, from his sharp jawline, to his eyes with black eyeliner around them, down toward his adamâs apple.
âNo.â Magnus shook his head, a smug smile on his face. He was perfectly aware of what was going through Alecâs mind. âBut youâre ea..â Magnus never got the chance to finish his sentence before Alec had taken one step inside the door, pushing Magnus up against the wall. Pinning Magnus between his body and the wall, kissing him hard. The first two seconds or so, Magnus was surprised, caught off guard by Alecâs sudden move, however he recovered quickly, kissing the other man back, wrapping his arms around him, pressing him closer. Their hands hungry for more, touching every inch of each other. Magnus moved his kisses down, stopping a second on Alecâs jaw before moving down to his neck, kissing along the deflect rune on his throat, making Alec moan. Magnus smiled as he felt Alecâs long fingers start working with all the small buttons on his shirt and he started tracing the rune with the tip of his tongue, knowing it would drive Alec mad. This time his moan was louder and his fingers clenched around his shirt.
âRip it.â Magnus growled in Alecâs ear nibbling on it. The shadowhunter wasted no time and easily ripped Magnusâ shirt open and dove down, starting to kiss, suck and lick along Magnusâ abs. It was Magnusâ time to moan and his hands gripped Alecâs hair for more leverage. As Alec made his way back up toward Magnusâ head, he tried to catch his breath. He couldnât show Alec just how much power he held over him, how much he craved him and only him. Their people were sworn enemies, this could only be physical, some really amazing sex, that was all. Magnus knew it wouldnât last long, heâs surprised that it has lasted this long. But Alec kept coming back, kept craving more. Magnus guessed it wasnât just because Magnus was hot, he was positive that it mainly depended on that shadowhunters was homophobic, that Alec would never get what he wanted, that soon heâd be forced to marry a woman. He felt bad for Alec, he wasnât like other shadowhunters. Magnus also knew how it felt to be forced, heâd been alive for decades so heâd seen and felt homophobia throughout the ages.
âBedroom. Now.â Magnus growled pushing Alec back.
âNo.â Alec denied with a husky voice, surprising Magnus. Alec rarely protested. Magnus didnât know what to say or how to react, but he didnât have to, Alec only waited a second before pushing Magnus back against the wall, holding his hands above his head with one hand while he unbuttoned Magnusâ pants with the other.
Alec was wrapping a towel around his waist, his hair dripping water but he didnât care, it was an excuse to stay a little longer, he loved spending time with Magnus. Heâd never admit that to him though, he knew heâd never get to come back if he did. Alec played along, pretended it was all physical and nothing more.
âSo you decided to save some of my waterâ Alec heard a voice from behind, he turned around to see Magnus in the doorway, arms crossed. âIâm starving.â he was now in a red silk robe, loosely tied around his waist. It was so sexy that Alec wanted to do a rerun of what theyâd just done. âYou want some food too?â
Alec nodded, he knew he was probably supposed to be going soon, he couldnât be away for too long. Itâs just that, this was the first time that Magnus had asked him to stay after theyâd had sex. It gave Alec a tiny spark of hope that Magnus might have feelings too, ignoring the fact that it wouldnât matter, they could never be together. âGreat, I have some left over pizza.â Magnus smiled and walked out of the room. Alec put on his clothes before joining Magnus in his kitchen, sitting down on the opposite side of the table, grabbing a slice.
âAny specific reason as to why you came early?â Magnus asked while Alec took a bite of the pizza. âAnd why you were so .. eager?â Magnus raised an eyebrow and smiled.
âValentine pissed me off.â Alec sighed, he spoke as quiet as he could, he was afraid that someone would hear it and report back to Valentine or the Clave. There was absolute no reason as to why someone in the downworld district would eavesdrop on a powerful warlock and then report Alec to the Clave, still, he didnât dare to say it too loud.
âWell, he pisses me off daily.â Magnus scoffed.
âHe announced a new rule.â Alec sighed, his face fell, there was deep sadness in his eyes that made Magnusâ heart ache. âGet married when youâre 18â
âBut, youâre 20?â Magnus asked his face now serious.
âMy parents will arrange a marriage for me but most of the shadowhunters in my age are already married.â Alec looked down on his lap, avoiding eye contact. Magnus could feel the pain in Alec, he knew why he wasnât like the others in his age. It wasnât that heâd been unlucky and havenât met the right woman, it was the fact that Alec was gay, there wasnât going to be a right woman. It broke Magnusâ heart, he knew what a marriage would mean for Alec.
âOh.â Magnus said, he didnât know what else to say, something that rarely happened.
âAnyway. I gotta go.â Alec sighed, still avoiding eye contact as he rose from the chair. âThanks for the pizza.â He added before walking past Magnus toward the door, it took a second for Magnus to process, Alec had always been so passionate, so full off emotions and now he seemed empty, he wasnât himself and Magnus needed to do something about it.
âAlexander, wait.â Magnus said as he stood up but Alec didnât even stop so he reached out and grabbed his arm, turning Alec around to face him. âItâs going to be alright.â
âHow? How is anything going to be okay?â Alec said with a strained voice, his face expressionless as he shook off Magnusâ hand. âWeâre stuck in a meaningless war and Iâll be stuck in a loveless marriage. Itâs never going to be okay, not during my lifetime.â Magnus could see tears building up in Alecâs eyes, though he didnât let them spill, he stood there with his soldier stone cold face, staring at Magnus. The only thing that gave him away was his hazel eyes filled with pain and anger, a silent scream.
âYou can still see me?â Magnus whispered, he knew that Alec was right, but he wanted to comfort him, wanted Alec to think it would be all right.
âWe both know that isnât true.â Alec sighed, running a hand through his hair.
âHey.â Magnus cupped Alecâs cheek with one hand, forcing him to look Magnus in the eyes. He even let his glamor drop, he didnât do that with anyone except Alec, he wasnât sure why. It was one thing that it happened when they had sex, when he lost control. âWe can find a way.â He whispered to Alec, keeping their eye contact, Magnus wanted to hold him, tell him it was going to be fine, but he didnât. After all, their agreement were no feelings involved.
âSure.â Alec sighed, moving away from Magnus. âShould I come in two days as usual?â He asked as he continued towards the door.
âSure.â Magnus tried to smile but it fell flat. âSame time?â
âYeah, sure.â Alec answered, not looking at Magnus as he pulled up his hood. Magnus sighed and snapped his fingers, making it possible for them to look through the door. It was their way of making sure that it wasnât a ton of people outside, so that the wrong downworlder wouldnât see Alec leave. There wasnât a soul out there, much to Magnusâ disappointment.
âGuess Iâll see you soon then.â Magnus sighed, the last couple of months or so heâd been getting attached to Alec, heâd been falling in love even though heâd never admit that. Magnus wanted Alec to stay, he wanted to tell him to stay. At least heâd stayed a little longer due to Magnus offering food. Just as Alec was about to open the door he spun around, grabbing Magnusâ robe, pulling him in for a deep kiss. Magnus was too surprised to respond and when he finally registered what was happening it was over and Alec ran out of the door leaving Magnus frozen in chock. They didnât do that, they didnât kiss unless they were sex involved.
Alec ran to the border and when heâd crossed it he gave it all he had. That was until he almost ran straight into Raj.
âWhat are you doing?â Raj asked, taking a step back since Alec had frozen half an inch from him.
âI was just testing how fast you can run in this terrain.â It was a terrible lie, but it was the first one that Alec could think of. Raj looked at him a little suspicious.
âBut why would you run from the border between downworlder and shadowhunter land? Thatâs not where you patrol.â Raj questioned and Alec silently cursed, couldnât he just have ran into someone else? Anyone else really, heâd even prefer Clary over Raj, at least she wouldnât ask so many questions.
âMy father has talked about moving me here so Iâm checking it out to be prepared.â Alec said, hoping that it would make Raj let go of it all. Raj still looked at him with suspicion but he nodded and left. Alec let out a breath of relief as soon as Raj was out of his sight and started walking back to the headquarters. This time he dragged his feet behind him, he didnât want to go home, it didnât even feel like home these days. It felt more like a prison, with his parents as prison guards and his siblings as fellow inmates, though they didnât seem to hate it as he did, they seemed to love their life.
âHey, big brother!â He heard a voice behind the bushes surrounding their house and as he walked inside their garden he saw Izzy.
âHey.â Alec answered, trying to smile. But heâd fucked up with Magnus, he was scared of losing Magnus and the whole marriage thing, he didnât know if heâd survive it.
âCheer up brother.â Izzy smiled at him and looped her arm in his, putting her other hand on his arm. She started walking and Alec had no choice but to follow her. They walked towards the house in silence.
âI have some news for you.â Izzy stopped and let go of Alec, she sat down on the hammock on their front porch. When Alec stood frozen staring at her, Izzy raised an eyebrow and patted on the seat next to her signaling that he should sit down beside her.
âSo what are the news?â He asked swallowing hard as he sat down next to his sister.
âI told our parents it would be better if I told youâ Izzy sighed, she didnât even try to smile and Alecâs heart threatened to jump out of his chest. âTheyâve found a girl for you to marry.â Izzy breathed, she was the only one that knew about his sexuality.
âWho?â Alec whispered, he didnât dare to breath or move, his eyes fixed on his hands that was clenched together in his lap.
âLydia Branwell.â Izzy answered. âSheâs pretty.â Alec knew that she was just trying to comfort him but he couldnât help but scoff, it didnât matter what she looked like, he wouldnât be attracted to her, he would never love her. Alec felt sorry for Lydia, she would never be loved by him, it didnât matter what she did or what she felt. His heart belonged to someone else, someone heâd never get to be with.
âIâll play happy in front of mom and dad.â Alec sighed and let out his breath, he sank down in the hammock, resting his head on the edge, it wasnât comfortable but he didnât care, he wanted to throw up. He was going to have to marry a woman, so that he wouldnât be a shame to the family, to the Lightwood name.
âIâm so sorry Alec.â She rubbed her neck and Alec saw in the corner of his eye how she tried to smile at him. âI wish there was a way for you to get out of this.â
âYeah.â He sighed. âIs mom and dad waiting in there?â
âNo, theyâre in a meeting with the Clave.â She answered. They were in Valentineâs inner circle, there was only two people closer to Valentine, Lucian Greymark his parabatai and his wife Jocelyn Morgenstern. Yet another reason why he couldnât refuse this marriage and probably the reason why theyâd found a girl for him so fast.
âGreat. Iâll go take a shower.â He said as he stood up.
âAlec!â He heard Izzy shout after him but he didnât stop, he didnât turn around. He pretended like he hadnât heard her, he couldnât keep it together much longer, he needed to get away. Alec practically ran up the stairs, through his room and into the bathroom where he tore off his clothes. When the warm water hit his face he let go of all the feelings heâd held inside, the tears streamed down his cheeks and he sank down, sitting under the water, crying and shaking.
The next day Lydiaâs family came for dinner. Alec was nervous and kept thinking about Magnus. He wished that he could call him, talk to the only person whoâd understand. During the day his mother and sister prepared him, tried to make him look as good as possible. Alec would rather die than go to this dinner. He wanted to be with Magnus, not Lydia and the only thing that got him through the day was knowing heâd see Magnus soon. He ignored the worries about Magnus being angry, it would be too much and heâd never keep it together. He pretended like everything was perfect between them, it was the only good thing he had.
Dinner was awful, Lydia was clearly still in love with her deceased husband. It seemed like she didnât care about who Alec was, nor did her parents, it was a little relief. Though he felt used, they were clearly just going along with this to gain more power, after all, the Lightwoods were an influential family, always had been and their close connection with Valentine helped. The Branwellâs behavior made Alec uncomfortable. Throughout the entire dinner he just wanted it all to be over and when he finally thought it had come to an end, he was forced to take a walk with Lydia. Their parents insisted that they should have some alone time. Alec almost threw up from nerves.
Magnus was lying on his couch with a whiskey in his right hand, head resting in Catarinaâs lap, one of his best friends and a fellow warlock. Cat had come over after a phone call from Magnus, panicking about how he was in love. So now he laid on his couch, a little drunk.
âMagnus, dear, whatâs so horrible about being in love?â Cat sighed, he still hadnât told her who he was in love with. It took a second until Cat gasped and said âno, Magnus. Donât tell me itâs that shadowhunter boy.â
âItâs not.â Magnus said, sitting up and taking a long sip from his glass.
âJesus, Magnus.â Cat sighed. âYouâre in love with the enemy.â
âI am totally not.â Magnus muttered and Cat just scoffed at him.
âI think Iâll take one of those drinks now.â She shook her head as she spoke. Magnus had a habit of wanting the forbidden fruit but this was a new record, at least it had never been their enemy before. Heâd never fallen in love with a shadowhunter, not even before this war began. Magnus reached for the whiskey and another glass, pouring Cat a glass and filling up his own, as he gave Cat her glass she sighed again. âI told you it was a bad idea to start seeing that boy.â This comment made Magnus sigh, she always talked about stop seeing Alec before something bad happened. Though it was a little too late for that now. Cat stayed the rest of the day and together they drank, Magnus drowning his sorrows and Cat drowning her worries. At the end of the day Cat had to tuck in a passed out Magnus on his couch before she herself went to sleep in his bed.
Their walk had been awkward, they didnât have anything in common. They barely talked at all and when they did it was a comment or two about the weather. When theyâd gotten back their parents sat around a table on the terrace. They were excited and asked a million questions about their walk. Both of them lied at said it was great and that theyâd had a lot to talk about. Lydia did it to gain power and Alec did it to make his parents proud.
That night Alec didnât sleep much, he was tossing and turning in his bed, thinking about the future, about Magnus and Lydia, how Alec was supposed to make babies with her. He wasnât even slightly attracted to her, how in the hell would that work? It made him sick and sent shivers through his body.
When Alecâs alarm clock rang heâd barely gotten two hours of sleep however he didnât waste any time. He got up and threw on his training clothes, going for a jog before training. Alecâs whole day was counting down to when heâd get to see Magnus and avoiding his parents or rather their questions. To get some alone time Alec decided to go for an extra long jog that morning, causing him to be exhausted when he met up with Jace to train. During their whole training session Jace joked about how tired Alec was and if it had something to do with Lydia. Alec laughed and played along, because that was what was expected of him, however he knew that Jace could sense how unhappy he was, it wasnât always great to have a parabatai.
Meanwhile Magnus was refusing to talk to Cat about anything that had to do with Alec. He just wanted to ignore it all, he knew that Alec would visit him later that day and he looked forward to it as well as dreading it. Magnus put extra time into his make up, he didnât even know why he tried so hard, it was only Alec.
When the time finally come for Alec to start making his way toward Magnus he didnât waste time, he ran out the door with a quick âIâm going outâ shout. As Alec made his way toward Magnusâ, the warlock paced nervously in his home. Alec couldnât help but smile as soon as he saw the black door, Magnusâ door. He barely had time to finish their secret knock before Magnus threw the door open and pulled him in shutting the door behind them. As soon as Magnus heard the door close behind him he cupped Alecâs face and kissed him, long and hard. It wasnât like the kisses theyâd shared before, kisses filled with desire, no this kiss was passionate in another way, it was filled with emotions and all the things neither of them could say. When Magnus pulled away Alec tried to catch his breath and before he knew it Magnus had turned away and was walking away.
âMagnus.â He breathed and realized that Magnus probably didnât hear him. âMagnus, wait.â This time he spoke louder and Magnus stopped. âI .. I think .. â Alec paused, taking a deep breath and licking his lips. âIâminlovewithyou.â He said it so fast that he didnât know if Magnus had understood him.
âAlexander.â Magnus whispered as he turned around, there was a deep sadness in his eyes, the kind of sadness you got after being alive for centuries, a deep rooted sadness after decades of pain. âIâm in love with you too.â He sighed taking a step closer to Alec who did the same, they met halfway and Magnus put a hand on Alecâs bicep. âBut we can never be together, you know that right?â
âYes.â Alec whispered, he wanted to hug him, kiss him, just hold onto him and never let go. âIâm getting married.â Alec closed his eyes as he spoke, trying to focus on the hand on his arm, the warmth from it and the shape of it.
âI know, you told me.â Magnus sighed, rubbing his thumb along Alecâs arm.
âYeah, but, my parents have found a wife.â Alec bit his lip, he still felt sick when he thought about marrying Lydia, someone who only wanted him to gain power, that he couldnât tell no, because who else would marry him?
âOh, Alexander. Iâm so sorry.â Magnus shook his head, the sadness in his eyes grew, it was clear that he felt Alecâs pain. Magnus wrapped his arms around Alec, hugging him. Alec buried his nose in the crook of Magnusâ neck. Oh how he wished that he could stay here forever, that he wouldnât have to go back, wouldnât have to marry Lydia.
The rest of the time Alec stayed at Magnusâ was spent like usual. Though a new part was the kisses after sex, the hugs, the smiles, the little touches, all those small things couples did, that they hadnât done before. Not that they would ever get to be a real couple. They were enemies, they should want to kill each other not fuck each other. But that had never been the case with them, ever since the first time they saw each other. Theyâd been chasing the same demon and it had almost gotten to Alec when Magnus came and blasted it with magic, weakening it so that Alec could push his seraph blade through it. Alec had been chocked that a downworlder had saved him, that a downworlder helped him kill a demon, heâd always been told that they protected demons. That was a lie of course, Alec knew that now. When their eyes met for the first time the air was knocked out of Alec, heâd never seen anyone so beautiful before. Magnus had asked if he was all right and told Alec his name, Alec barely had time to answer before he heard Jace shouting after him and Magnus portaled away. It shouldâve been the end of their story, but Alec couldnât stop thinking about the fabulous man that had saved him and after a day filled with fights, he found himself running through the woods and somehow he ended up outside of Magnusâ door. It had been dangerous and stupid, he hadnât controlled his impulses and it couldâve gotten him killed, but Magnus let him come inside. He wasnât thrilled about having a shadowhunter in his home but he said that heâd never been able to refuse a pretty boy and that was the start of their affair. Months later, they stood on the other side of the same door, the door that Alec had fled to, hugging and not wanting to let go, but Alec had to go home, he couldnât be out too long, it would raise suspicion.
âIâll try to come soon.â Alec mumbled into Magnusâ shoulder.
âIâll cancel all afternoon clients, so you can come whenever.â Magnus whispered in Alecâs ear, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. Alec let go of Magnus even though he didnât want to and Magnus did his magic thing to check if there was someone outside, there wasnât so Alec walked out of the door. He really didnât want to go and this time he dragged his feet behind him, he wasnât running like the last time. Something he probably should have done, but how could he know that he was being followed?
Shortly after Alec had left Magnus heard their secret knock on his door, he thought it was kind of odd. Maybe heâd forgotten something Magnus thought and opened the door.
âAlexander.â He said but before he had a chance to process what was happening he was beaten down to the ground and got some weird iron gloves on his hands that stopped his magic, he tried to fight but they were too strong. The blond boy and his female friend dragged him away. He saw the runes on their skin. Magnus tried to fight, praying that someone would see them. Shadowhunters had never had the balls to attack downworlders in their home before, they rarely attacked powerful ones at all, especially when they were just two.
Magnus noticed the border between downworlder and shadowhunter territory and swallowed hard.
âYou do know that I can walk, right?â Magnus stated to the two shadowhunters dragging him by the arms.
âThen stand up you filth.â The boy said, pulling at Magnusâ arm so hard it felt like his shoulder would pop. Magnus scrambled to his feet and started walking in-between the two shadowhunters.
Alec was almost home when Raj and two other shadowhunters confronted him, the two others stood slightly behind Raj with their seraph blades out. Raj held in a pair of hand cloves and Alecâs heart stopped. He stood frozen, staring at Raj.
âAlexander Gideon Lightwood.â He said, with what Raj thought was an imposing voice, though he sounded more like a child playing pretend.âYouâre under arrest.â Alec hoped that it didnât have to do with Magnus. The two men behind Raj took a step forward, knocking him to the ground. Alec landed on his back and felt a stone hit his right shoulder, he bit down a scream, he wouldnât give them the satisfaction. They threw him over so he laid on his stomach, Alec felt the warmth of blood running down his shoulder and bit down another scream when they pushed his arms back putting handcuffs on him, making them just a little too tight.
âThis is what happens when you betray your own.â Alec heard Rajâs voice whisper in his ear and he knew that he was fucked. Theyâd found out about him and Magnus, he just prayed that Magnus was all right. That they wouldnât dare attack the most powerful warlock in New York.
Magnus knew he had to flee and soon before they got too deep into shadowhunter territory. The only plan he had was to run, surprising them. He yanked his arms together, causing the two shadowhunters to fall over, crashing into each other, letting go of Magnusâ arms. He didnât waste any time and started running as fast as he could, his goal was to get close enough to Ragnorâs house, getting help from his friend. Magnus wasnât a runner, never had been and it didnât help that he had magic. He didnât like to run, he trained and stayed in shape but he didnât run. Something he regretted now as he tried to breath while outrunning shadowhunters, that trained as soon as they could walk. Through the trees Magnus could see a hint of red, knowing he was getting close to Ragnorâs house, he pushed harder, he was so close. He was just about to shout when felt something hit the back of his head and the world turned black.
Alec didnât know how long itâd been since Raj arrested him. Heâd been through questioning with the mortal sword and as if that wasnât painful enough heâd been beaten by Sebastian more times than he could count, he was the son of Valentine and heâd always been pure evil. Alec had managed to drift off into a shallow sleep, plagued by nightmares. He still didnât know what had happened to Magnus, heâd asked so many times even though it meant that Sebastian would hit him and scream at him, he just couldnât help it. He was awoken by someone throwing open the gate to his cell.
âGet up.â A familiar voice said, Alec didnât want to look up, he just did as he was told. As soon as he stood up, the man grabbed him by the arm, pulling him out of the cell by force. If Alec didnât know any better heâd think that he was here to save him. But Alec had done something his father would never forgive. He was pushed inside an elevator and his father followed him. Alec wanted to ask where they were going but he barely dared to breath. When the elevator stopped, he was met with the sight of the Clave standing in a half circle, with Valentine in the middle, kneeling beside him was a man, his black hair stripy and filled with blood. On his hands were silver gloves and his head was bent down.
âAlec.â Valentine greeted him and his father pushed him one last time before leaving his side, joining the other members. Alec didnât answer, he just looked straight at Valentine, not showing a single emotion on his face. âIâve decided that your betrayal can be overseen and you can escape execution, becoming a silent brother to serve your own kind for decades.â Alec still didnât answer, he knew that there would be a catch, that Valentine wouldnât just forgive him out of the goodness in his heart. âYouâll just have to prove your loyalty.â Valentine smiled a vicious smile.
âHow?â Alec spat, he was done playing nice, he was sick and tired of all of this. Of being forced to fight in a pointless war, of never having had a choice in his entire life.
âKill him.â Valentine smile grew as the pulled back the head of the man beside him, Alec looked down only to be met with Magnusâ face. He was bruised with cuts all over his face and down his throat. Magnus didnât have his glamour on, Alec thought he would be met by dark brown eyes and gasped as he saw the beautiful cat eyes, their usual flicker was gone replaced with pain. Valentine put a knife in Alecâs hand and took a step back, staring at Alec, waiting to see what he would do next. Magnus was looking up at Alec, pain written across his face. Alec dropped the knife and shook his head, he couldnât do it, there was no way he would kill the man he loves. He didnât care what they did to him, he wouldnât kill Magnus. Alec heard Valentine sigh and the second after something hit the back of his knees, causing him to fall down to his knees.
âItâs a shame, you were a good soldier.â Valentine sighed, pulling out another knife, Alec didnât even turn his head to look at him, he kept looking into Magnusâ eyes. Someone grabbed Alecâs hair, pulling his head back. Alec felt the blade of the knife against his throat, he didnât flinch and he didnât look away from Magnus. âLast chance?â Valentine asked.
Alec didnât answer, his eyes still on Magnus, he simply whispered âI love youâ to Magnus.
Magnus was so sure that Alec would kill him and when he just dropped the knife and refused, he was shocked. Magnus wished that Alec wouldâve killed him when they forced him down on his knees and Alec didnât tear his gaze from Magnus, they looked into each others eyes and for a moment it felt like they were the only two in the room. Then something glittered at Alecâs throat and before Magnus knew what was happening Alec whispered that he loved him and Magnus barely had time to answered him. The same second Magnus had spoken his last word, Valentine dragged the blade across Alecâs throat, blood splattered on Magnus and he wanted to look away but he couldnât. He watched as the life left Alecâs eyes, listened to the gurgling as Alec tried to scream. Tears streamed down Magnusâ eyes and he wanted to scream, but he couldnât. He saw Alecâs body hit the floor and heard screams from Jace and Izzy. Magnus threw himself on the floor, crawling towards Alecâs limp body, tears still streaming down his cheeks. His hands were shaking as he whispered âoh Alexanderâ over and over again, trying to hold his face but the gloves made him clumsy. Magnus was thrown back, pinned to the floor. Valentine towered over him with a seraph blade in his hands.
âFilth.â He spat as he looked down on Magnus, his eyes filled with disgust. âYouâve wasted a perfectly good soldier.â Magnus laughed a little. Of course Valentine would blame him but was all his own fault. Valentine was the one whoâd spilled Alecâs blood and Valentine was the one to set fire to a dead war. âFILTH!â Valentine screamed, his face red and he bent down to slap Magnus across the face. Magnus laughed again, he couldnât help himself. He spat in Valentineâs face and watched as he raised his seraph blade. Magnus looked him straight in the eyes and didnât flinch as Valentine pierced his heart with the blade and everything went black.
