When I tell you it felt like I was reading this book for a whole month but it was really just a week, you know it had me hooked. This ice hockey romance did not disappoint. It's easily one of my favorites now!
I loved Carter, how he wasn't looking to fall in love, but then he sees Olivia dancing with Cara, and suddenly everything changes. He wants to be better, not just for her but for himself. The way he opened up, sent her flowers, did little favors, gave her the sweetest nicknames... ugh, I melted. And it wasn’t just Carter growing and Olivia did too. Watching them both let their guards down was beautiful.
I underlined so many quotes, but my absolute favorite was from Carter’s POV:
“Her words tumble tenderly off her tongue, and I empty everything I have into this woman my heart beats for.”
Tell me that isn’t perfection.
Page 270 absolutely wrecked me—in the best way. When Olivia thought Carter was just dropping her off at home, but instead he took her to his place, sat her on his bed, and said:
“We’re going to start to work through it together.”
That moment hit me hard. Instead of running away or shutting down, they talked. They chose each other. That’s what real relationships are about, choosing to communicate through the fear and I love that the author showed that.
