Lexie struggles with the challenges of single parenthood, a new job, growing feelings for a park ranger, and her husband’s sudden return.

Finding her made him break his own rules.

Walker was a foster child, a kid full of gloom and doom. After being shifted around, he landed with Sam, who gave him an ax and a log of wood, telling him “you have to let those feelings go somewhere, boy.”

Now, Walker is a lumberjack, who often works with forestry services. He also has unbreakable rules, such as never falling in love, because love is only going to bring pain. Yeah, we know where that’s going, don’t we?

Kelly is on assignment from a nature magazine to photograph grey wolves during whelping season. She gets her pictures, all right — pictures of trappers setting up traps around the wolves’ den. Now she’s running for her life, falls down a ravine, sprains her ankle, and drags herself into a bush, and the trappers leave her to die. Because of course a storm is coming in.

It’s lucky that Walker was in the area, because he hears a whimper, and finds Kelly.

Kelly is not totally on board with Walker; she doesn’t know him, and for all she can tell, he could be one of the trappers. Some of her fears are allayed, but trust doesn’t come easily between these two. Once they finally resolve that, well…here comes the steam.
