My top 5 DC comics for this year as a newbie comic reader!!
Inspired by @casscainmainly's post!
Top 5 comics
Batman: Dark Patterns: I absolutely adored the art style and colourings for this book, the plot was heavy and interesting with the main focus on Bruce’s relationship with Gotham City. All the villains had deep, well thought out motives that really cut to the heart of Batman comics in general.
Green Lantern 2023-: As a massive Star Sapphire fan I was always bound to love this comic. The relationship between Hal and Carol grows at a natural pace and never feels forced. The plot is constantly changing and fresh, offering awesome team ups and deep dives into Hal’s psyche. I look forward to seeing this comic grow and continuing to create new and interesting plots!
Red hood: Lost Days: Personally for me this comic is even better than Under the Red Hood. The character building for Jason Todd was amazing and it was interesting to see how he was making his own rules on how to approach life, while still being grounded in his own morals and ethics that he shared with Bruce. This would be higher but the jumpscare relationship at the end was too much.
DC: The New Frontier: The start of this book is a bit slow, however once I got into it I was completely enraptured. This book has a lot of characters, but gives them all well meaning parts that helps define the characters. The villain was completely new which I enjoyed and the stakes were super high, which made the story even more entertaining.
Gotham City: Year 1: I believe that because all the characters were either new or not very well used by DC it meant that King’s usual mischaracterisation was not an issue, which allowed this comic to flourish. The colouring was spectacular and the ending was heart breaking and jaw-dropping. The plot was fast-paced and kept me on my toes at all times, with plot twists that felt organic and unforced.
Reading Trial of the Catwoman and seeing Selina use the r slur

Kara Zor-El’s journey across the stars feels more intimate than ever in this new printing. We’re looking at the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Compact Comics to see if this smaller size keeps the epic scale intact. My analysis focuses on whether this budget-friendly format serves the masterpiece created by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. 📦 Quick Summary > ✔ Best for: Readers wanting a high-end story…
My comic shelf as of December 10, 2025. Gonna need a bigger shelf.
