I've been teaching a weekly comics workshop sponsored by the LA County Department of Mental Health. The series is run by @dstlarts , a local community arts mentorship organization who I'm partnered with for these classes. I've known the founder, @stimeyluv1 , for some years and am glad to be working with him on this very exciting program. Each student in the program will be producing a 2 page comic on a mental health topic of their choice. It's a way to raise awareness of mental health issues particularly in the Latino community. The stories will be printed in a special anthology we're producing through the Dept. This is a great opportunity that will allow a lot of these young people a chance to have their work published for the first time. I'm looking forward to the final product. As part of the workshop I and the assistant teaching artist will be producing our own stories. For mine, I thought of two issues I could address and decided on something that I was hitherto unknown to have experienced. Self diagnosed, I guess. And a revelation (or perhaps realization) as to perhaps the true underpinning to the creative impulse that's driven my comics work, El Muerto specifically, for the last two decades. They call it "Existential crisis"..... #existentialcrisis #existentialanxiety #mentalhealthawareness #lacountymentalhealth #comicsclass #makingcomics #mentalwellbeing #soulsearching https://www.instagram.com/p/B3ryTCGhG_Y/?igshid=14nuwfwoo3k14
