They are common freshwater protists that are covered in little scales. They swim by spinning themselves around with cilia.Â
Also, tricks of the light can make then look rainbow-y under the microscope, sort of like a gemstone.Â
They normally feed on bacteria and detritus, but some have toxic organelles that they can inject into prey (don’t worry though, they are harmless to humans)
