Euplotes ciliates resting and feeding. These single-celled organisms have cilia hairs which are bunched up into tufts called 'cirri' which function like little legs, allowing them to walk along the substrate.
This individual was found in a water sample from the Tama river in Tokyo, painted in gouache.

Not art, but this is my first time ever looking at protists under my microscope so i am pretty happy about it

Whew, it's been awhile. Here are some Colpidium sp. from the runoff water from one of my potted plants. I let the water sit in my closet for a day before observing.
I'm kind of surprised I didn't see more protists and invertebrates, but I suppose there is abundant and diverse bacteria (that's why the Colpidium are thriving).
