I was thinking about this earlier but I love the headcanon that not only were The Squid Sisters inspired by Coikals (the 80s cuttlefish idols on a cassette tape in octo expansion) but that their og producer Shy Ho Shy, and later on You☆Me, are the previous members of Coikals

It makes sense, given that it's noted that Coikals are still in the music industry somewhere. Shy Ho Shy, if she was one of the members of Coikals, would see herself a bit in Callie and Marie when she found them at the folk singing competition they won. It makes perfect sense that she'd manage the Squid Sisters and give their aesthetic a modern spin on Coikals

I specifically like the idea that the black haired one in red is Shy Ho Shy and You☆Me is the cream haired one in blue. Panda Universe on YT did an amazing job fleshing out that idea and making fan music around Coikals :3

It's been more than 4 decades since COIKALS hit the scene and forever transformed Inkopolis's soundscape.

One wonders, where are they now?
