This is a repost of a fic from my old account that was hacked! Please don’t report.
For context/clarity ; Clover Wayne is the biological daughter of Bruce Wayne. She became the vigilante known as ‘Nightingale’ after she stopped being Robin. Clover is also a Demigod daughter of Apollo (if Kayla can have two dads so can she) and kinda accidentally but not really ended up not telling her family that her dad’s a god.
‘Sunflower’ is a nickname that she goes by with her demigod friends and family, cause, you know, daughter of the sun with a plant themed name. The Prophet is another nickname, she got it because she sometimes has visions that relate to the oracles prophecy’s or upcoming quests.
Anyways here’s the story
If you had told 12 year old Clover and her family that she’s spend her teen years fighting in a godly war, she’d laugh at you with them and deny it to your face. Her family were vigilantes—herself included—not some mythical heroes from old legends. They fight crime, not gods and monsters, at least not regularly.
———————————————————————
Clover has a moderately regular family that consisted some.. irregular business, you could say. If masquerading around at night in costumes and punching criminals was considered ‘irregular business’.
She called herself Nightingale, a bird known for being active during dusk and dawn, and singing during the day. It fit her quite well, she thought.
She’s a trained fighter and a field medic for the bat family, her family. Of course they all had medical training, Father all but forced it on them, but Clover knew the most. Soaked it up like a sponge, according to her oldest brother, Richard Grayson.
Clover could take one look at you and tell you what was wrong and then proceed to fix it. Broken nose, hold still while she sets it, got clipped by a rouge on patrol, sit down she’s got a needle and some thread—yes she has supplies on her Tim stop asking and stop moving—that’ll do the trick.
Some people stared calling her the ‘Nurse Bird’ because she always has what you need for almost any wound one could get. ‘Old habits die hard, I suppose’ she said when asked about it once.
———————————————————————
But if you caught to her while she was at camp half-blood, if you spoke to 12 year old Sunflower, she’d hear you out, and she’d be terrified because she knows it’s the truth. Especially now—in the midst of a major arms dealing bust with the bats and the birds, no less—when her visions tell her the same.
———————————————————————
Sunflower. That’s what her family called her. No, not her father or her brothers, they just called her by her name, or sometimes Clove or CC.
Sunflower is what her other family calls her. Her friends living beyond half-blood hill and under the protection of Thalias Tree. Her siblings in cabin 7. Her dad, whose chariot pulls the sun across the sky every day. Her godly family.
The family that she fights monsters and goes on quests and patches wounds from war games alongside, that share her divine heritage and the powers one gains from that.
She hadn’t meant to keep it a secret. Really she hadn’t, but there just never seemed to be a good time to bring it up.
Tried to talk to her father about it, oops there’s a rouge attack and it’s all hands on deck.
Tries to bring it up again, suddenly she has a new assassin raised little brother who keeps causing issues—not on purpose, but it can’t be helped, it’s very different in Gotham compared to the LOA—and is practically glued to her side. Something about blood-siblings and birth rights?
Waits for things to cool down then makes plans to talk to her family a third time, turns out her not-so-dead brother, Jason, is a crime lord and hellbent on getting some kind of revenge on Father and Joker for his death and Fathers lack of action for vengeance.
Things come to better terms and she prepares for a forth time to tell the family, Father ‘dies’ and the position of Batman is up in the air, everyone is freaking out, grieving, and dynamic are changing in ways no one really understands.
(Father came back in the end so it’s all good now)
No, she never meant to keep it to herself, she simply was interrupted every time she tried to bring it to light. Like some weird divine intervention or something.
———————————————————————
During the fight Clover gets knocked out, not by any rogue but by a monster that was lying in wait for a chance to strike a demigod meal. The monster, an Empousa that had disguised itself among the criminals, had begun dragging her out of the warehouse and towards its den.
The vision comes while she’s unconscious, like it usually does. She sees a young demigod standing before the Minotaur, she sees a group set off on a quest, she sees Echidna and the Chimera at the gateway arch, she sees LA and the underworld, she sees that same young demigod stand before Zeus, and she just barely sees an ominous and powerful figure standing and watching it all.
When Clover wakes up she’s still being dragged by the Empousa, but she escapes its holds and draws her bow—carved from wood and reinforced with celestial bronze, disguised as a small wooden charm she wears on a thin gold chain around her neck—to fight. It attacks fiercely but a few well aimed arrows do the trick.
Clover pauses to collect herself, and think about what her visions showed her. She knows she must make way to camp, but if she does she doesn’t know when she’ll return. She has to choose, and quickly, her mortal family or her godly family.
Clover takes one look back to her father and brothers and mutters a feint ‘I’m sorry’ before turning once more and running, leaving the criminal and heroes fighting behind her.
See, she has set up multiple points across Gotham that held supplies should a magical problem ever present itself. Packs with weapons, clothes, food and water, medical supplies, ambrosia and nectar, and plenty of drachma.
Making her way to the closest one, the quickly gathers her things, changes out of her suit—packing it with her so no one finds it or gods forbid steals it—and gets the first ride out of the city back to the mainland, Gotham is an island off the Jersey shore.
As soon as she touches down, she makes for where she hopes is a nearby satyr trail that will take her directly to camp.
-
Meanwhile in Gotham, the dust settles over the area. The fight is done, the rouges are in custody, and Clover is nowhere to be found.
-
She makes it to camp by the next week, having split her time between the satyr trails and hitchhiking, and goes directly for the big House to speak with Chiron, not stopping to answer the questions of her sudden appearance.
‘Something is big coming’ she says to him, interrupting his and Mr.D’s card game ‘and it’s coming soon. I’ve seen it.’ With those words, Chiron was silenced, and Sunflower—The Prophet of Camp Half-Blood—had given her warning.
It was that very night that it all happened. There was a disturbance at the border, the news an unknown demigod fighting the Minotaur had awoken most of camp. When people had arrived, all that was left was an unconscious satyr, the Minotaurs horn, and the very same young demigod Sunflower had seen before.
This was it. The vision had been realized. The prophecy was awoken.
