midnight messages. a deep rumble of the floorboards. wind hustling through the trees, but it doesn’t scare them. it gives them a home. bitter coffee with an aroma of cinnamon. torn paper burning away in the fireplace. burnt fingers held against the cold hearth. a record skipping, but it’s the only record they have, and the only one they will play. there are too many picture frames on the walls of their mind, and you fear it will destroy them. one day it will.
