Can you share some of the fashion references you've been using for your noir fic? You put so much effort into the fashion in each chapter!
OOOHH I really love this question, I enjoy very much describing clothes in my fic!!
So, first of all, I have three pieces of fanart that inspired me when I started thinking about this AU and the way Byleth and Seteth would dress in it.
On one hand we have this incredible piece made by @kriskrisinc, from which I really loved Byleth's pencil skirt, and Seteth's handkerchief on his pocket! Is so lovely!!

On the other hand, this fanart made by @jael-dub, also inspired me a lot to put Seteth in a three piece suit, and I love the lace on Byleth's neck!! I just love how good they look!!

And last but not least, I look a lot at this piece made by Jojo, in which she puts Seteth in a cardigan and he looks so handsome in it!! Cannot wait to use this outfit in a chapter.

Apart from fanart, I was inspired by other piece of media, such as comic and, well, of course, noir movies! The comic that really gives me an idea of how to write, most of all, Byleth's and Jeralt's clothes is Blacksad, a noir series made by two spanish authors, Juan DĂaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido. It was also the comics I chose to make my final degree project! It just have a lot of film noir references, and I love how Guarnido drew the characters' clothes!
And then of course, we have film noirs! The main one I think about when writing are: The Big Sleep (Howard Hawks, 1946) I just love Lauren Bacall's vestuary in this film so much!
Then, apart from all that, I just need to stop and think how the characters would dress in this setting, sometimes taking their clothes in game as references. I always dress Seteth in suits with the same colour pattern his robes have, while for Byleth, I'm using always the grey-white-black pattern of colour, and modernizing her principal outfilt of the game into something more detectivesque. Changing her coat for a trench, her bodice for a white shirt, her shorts for some black trousers or pencil skirt, and those high boots for ankle boots, and there you have it, detective Byleth lol. But I also took some references from the Academy Uniform clothes and change some things so it fits!
Apart from these two dorks, for describing the students uniforms, I just took their colours, the blue, the red and yellow, and change it for sweaters and cardigans, some trousers and skirts, and there you have it, modern Academy uniforms just like these ones:
At the end it all comes to patience. To look in Google for 40's-50's clothes and check what would make sense with their personalities. Also, it helps me a lot to check charts with different types of shoes, sleeves, skirts, shirt collars, etc.
Again, thank you so much for asking me, I hope you like the answer!! <3
