In witchcraft, your tools hold energy ~ but knowing when to cleanse them and when to charge them can make all the difference.

🌿 Cleansing

Purpose: Removes lingering or unwanted energy so your tool is neutral and ready for new work.

Methods:

• Smoke cleansing (rosemary, cinnamon, mugwort)

• Sound (bells, singing bowls)

• Salt burial or moonlight bath

When to Cleanse:

• Before using a new tool

• After heavy or protective spellwork

• If your tool feels “off”

🌞 Charging

Purpose: Fills your tool with energy that matches your magical intention.

Methods:

• Sunlight or moonlight exposure

• Placing on an altar during ritual

• Surrounding with crystals that match your purpose

When to Charge:

• After cleansing

• Before a big ritual

• When dedicating a tool for a specific purpose

💝Unfollow or mute anyone you hate follow or anyone who makes you feel sh*tty

💝Delete anyone you don’t talk to in your contacts

💝Re-vamp your self care routine, add some new steps

💝Have a huge sort out of your bedroom, get rid of stuff you don’t use anymore and shuffle things around

💝Do away with your bad sleeping and eating habits

I learned this cleansing from a fellow tarot loving irl friend a few years back. This is a good option for folks who can’t smoke cleanse.

Put your deck in numerical order (start wjth the major arcana, then go into minor arcana. Suit order doesn’t really seem to matter) once they’re all in order, shuffle and repeat the process once more. It’s kind of like hitting a reset button on your deck.

Personally once I reorder the cards a second time I like to let my cards sit in sunlight for a few minutes.

I’m a big fan of white-sage cleansing for crystals when they cant be cleansed with water, but smudge sticks can be pretty expensive. For those (like myself) on a budget, many crystal/metaphysical shops sell little packs of white sage; this was £2.

Method: Using tweezers, hold one dried sage leaf at a time. Use a lighter to light it and blow out the flame, like you would with incense. (You’d be surprised the amount of smoke a singular leaf produces!) Make sure the smoke reaches every corner of the area you’re trying to cleanse. :)

(One leaf managed to cleanse around 4 fairly large crystals for me)

Cleansing spray - make a homemade cleansing spray using your own ingredients & intentions

Crystal grid - make a crystal grid using crystals & herbs

Fresh air - open some windows or doors and let the wind blow in new energy

Soothing music - turn on your favourite songs (use different songs for different intentions)

Sunlight - open windows & curtains, let the sun shine in and cleanse your space
