A cheat sheet for relationship readings:
Cups = emotions + emotional connection
Wands = passion + sexual compatibility/desire
Swords = communication + mental connection
Pentacles = stability + finances + long-term commitment + respect + duty
Ideally you would have a balanced amount of each suit in a relationship reading, as this typically indicates a healthy and balanced relationship… which is required to make things last in the long run (with both people feeling fulfilled)
Cups + wands = everything is intense, emotions are heightened, relationship may be purely physical. Both parties have wildly different needs or expectations for the relationship. One may be more emotionally invested while the other
Cups + swords = there’s a great emotional connection, and the communication is mind-blowing, but you’re probably not having really great sex… if you are, one of you doesn’t alway finish, and the other person might be kind of fast/selfish… you guys probably only talk about your emotions with each other, and there’s likely a mother/son or father/daughter thing going on that isn’t super sexy or stable in the long run.
Cups + pentacles = old married couple vibes. Stable and emotionally fulfilling, but you have to schedule sex once a week or you’ll forget to have it. Typical (non-abusive) hetero relationship you’re used to seeing on tv.
Wands + swords = can be cute. It’s giving polyamory, or a leo and a libra getting together. Both of you are cheating on the other person lmao.
Wands + pentacles = forrest fire vibes. Wildly unbalanced energy, kind of toxic tbh. One of you is boring, and the other is clinically insane.
Swords + pentacles = arranged marriage vibes, or “I’m mainly doing this because it’s what I think I’m supposed to be doing”.
For yes/no questions like “is he cheating on me” or “is he talking to someone else” pull a simple line of 3 or line of 5.
Pulling any more than 5 cards for these questions is going to do you far more harm than good. New readers might think that more cards = more details—which can sometimes be true—but it’s important in these situations to get a clear and decisive answer, hence the limit of 5 cards MAX for these readings.
You’ll find the best luck if you read these spreads from left to right as a story, instead of assigning a meaning to each card like “past, present, future” etc.
For other questions, or to get a more comprehensive overview of the relationship itself, use the following 3-18 card spread. Be absolutely certain to limit yourself to 9 cards per question!
As with before, if you want a clear and concise answer, you don’t need to be pulling half the cards out of your deck lmao.
When doing celebrity readings I do alter the spread linked above, where I do 3 groups of 6 cards instead of 2 groups of 9 cards. These cards are all read as a story, still, with the first group of 6 showing the beginning, the 2nd group being the middle, and the 3rd group showing the end. This is also a variation of the story spread I have shared on my substack—obviously in celebrity readings I’m not searching for problems or protagonists, so things had to be adjusted.
Some of the cards meanings in relationship readings:

The lovers = fated soulmate, romantic love, and/or balance.
Strength reversed = fear, power plays/games.
Page of cups = a new relationship or phase in relationship.
King of wands = fickle in love—he’s passionate and charismatic, yet typically unreliable and/or inconsistent.
