I’m so absolutely smitten

One of my favorite parts of medieval fantasy settings are the weapons. And when I’m not drawing people or monsters, I like to sketch out weapon designs. Here are a few I worked on recently, inspired by the lore of D&D.

1. War Scythe of the Raven Guard - A concept I had for a paladin of the Raven Queen involved a wandering group of clerics, priests, & paladins who roam the countryside hunting down undead, this being one of their weapons.

2. Unnamed broken greatsword - Another character idea I had involved a half-orc rogue who’s father, the leader of an orc tribe, was planning on passing chiefdom onto him. However one of the half-orc’s full-blooded younger brothers challenged the old orc to rite of ascension. The hot-headed young orc shattered his father’s greatsword and subsequently killed the old chieftain. The half-orc picked up the what was left of the blade and swore vengeance, using it like a short sword.

3. Dragon Slayer Greatsword - What started as me emulating the hilt of the Storm Giant’s weapon in the Monster Manual (p.156) eventually turned into a decorative Dragon Slayer weapon, with 1/4 of the back of the blade being covered in scales for an easier grip when attempting to carve up the draconic kill (sort of like the handle of a paper cutter).
