Culinarians Day & Health and Happiness with Hypnosis Day & Thread the Needle Day
Person A attends a hypnotist academy where there are different classes and curriculums for different students. Person A uses food for hypnosis, through the process of preparing or through drug-like ingredients, to get the desired state of mind from their targets, and use their hypnotized state to change their dietary habits for improving their health. Person B uses thread, but remains vague about what type of hypnosis they use or what their goals are - until Person A stumbles across their textbooks and learns they use it to stitch up wounds and make the person they healed their puppet.

One of the students who had a GPA way above average.

___.
One of the students who had a GPA right around average.
One of the students who had a personality that was misunderstood by many.
One of the students who had a lot of exes trailing behind them.
What did the teacher think when she assigned them to work together in a group?
She must've accidentally replaced her ginger shot with vodka for breakfast.
When the teacher announced the group you could tell that the pair weren't the only shocked ones.
Some people were jealous and others simply confused.
The pair locked eyes as they already knew who the other was.
Seonghwa's face was hard to define, the girl wasn't sure if he was mad or if he was scared.
___ looked unbothered and waved to him, trying to seem friendly in case he had prejudices against her.
But she didn't need to try to change the way he viewed her; he already had a clear vision of who she was.
She was his crush and that was the reason why he started breathing faster and why his face showed his very lean-looking panic.
He waved back, looking uncomfortable as ever.
"Come, over here, pretty boy," she said impatiently.
The blushing boy face palmed inwardly at the fact that he didn't get the signal when she waved to him.
He walked over and tried to get rid of the panic he was feeling by counting his breaths, like he had read somewhere online.
___ pulled out the chair beside her for him to sit down, "H-Hi, I'm Seonghwa."
"I know," she stated matter-of-factly.
The teacher said your name. Of course she knows it, you ducking idiot, he cursed at himself as he looked down at the table in embarrassment.
"I'm leaving in 10 minutes, because I have a dentist appointment, so when do you wanna study?" she asked casually.
"We could do it today- It being the project. Yeah," he mumbled as his heart raced.
"What else would it be?" she chuckled at his stuttering, thinking it was adorable.
He cursed at himself inside once again, assuming she saw him as a freak.
"Are you free tonight?" she tried to dodge the previous question to lighten up the mood a little.
"W-Why at night?" he inhaled a rather fast breath.
Who wouldn't react that way when someone they had fantasized about asked that? Damn. The girl he wanted to fuck him asked him if they could meet at night...
"I'm gonna be busy after school... Am I that scary?"
"No! Of course not. I was just won-dering," he raised his voice so it cracked.
Good job, Seonghwa, he thought.
"Then it's settled! Where do you wanna study though? I doubt the library is open late."
"My place is okay. But we can go to your place if you want t-to."
Please say your place, he thought, since he wanted to know where his crush lived.
"I have small siblings so it can get pretty messy and we might get disturbed every other minute, so I'd prefer to go to your place," she continued, "unless you have small siblings too."
"No. And my p-parents are out of t-town too," he stuttered more when he realized what it could mean.
Damn. His crush would be at his place. Alone. At night.
"Perfect," she looked at her watch, "I'm leaving now, but lemme give you my number first."
She held her hand out and looked at me expectantly.
As he opened his phone he could feel his hands becoming clammy. His crush was going to give him her number!
He handed it to her and made skin-to-skin contact with her in the process.
She must think I did it on purpose-
"Here you go," she smiled at him as she gave him his phone back.
He turned into a tomato.
"Bye. Text me!" she said before she left.
"I-I will," he waved.
He definitely would.
Gosh. She must think that I'm so awkward, he panicked.
Wait-
She would go to his place.
She would go to his place.
That was the first time they had a conversation, and now they were going to be at his place.
Gosh. Gosh. Gosh-
I need to fix the place.
He got up from his seat and went right to the teacher's desk.
"Pardon, but I was wondering if I can leave class because I feel really sick. And my partner isn't here so I can't really work by myself either," he said in a vulnerable voice and scrunched his brows a little to try to act like he was in pain.
"There's the door," the intoxicated teacher said and pointed towards it.
Great.
Since it was his last lesson for the day he could go home.
With fast steps he walked to the lockers and got all the books he needed for the day, he didn't want to waste a second.
His bag was filled with what felt like a ton of bricks and his shoulders hurt with every move he made.
Then he stopped.
He didn't need them.
He didn't need all those stupid books.
He was going to need one book and that book was the one he needed for the assignment.
Seonghwa wasn't going to spend his day studying, he was going to prepare for the awaiting evening.
And so the books were back in his locker and his bag weighed like a feather and he made his way to his car.
His parents were rich, so he had his own sexy car.
As he was leaving the building he heard a voice behind him: "Are you going?"
Seonghwa turned around and saw a familiar figure.
It was his best friend Hongjoong.
"Um. Yeah."
"Why? Your lesson ends a quarter after mine," Hongjoong asked, suspicious.
"I'm going home, because my partner for my assignment isn't here so I can't work," the tall one explained to the short one.
"Okay, then. Let's go," Hongjoong said.
Seonghwa muttered a quiet yeah and lead the way to his car.
He opened it and slammed the door, leaving the younger slightly confused.
Inside the vehicle the oldest furrowed his brows as he squeezed his hands on the steering wheel and made them pale.
The younger looked at the other worriedly, "What's up? Is there something you're not telling me?"
Seonghwa gave the younger a fast glance before turning his attention back to the road, "___ is coming over tonight."
"Congrats."
"It's for an assignment."
"Oh."
"And she thinks I'm awkward, because I'm so nervous around her," the older complained in a whiny voice, "and the fact that the place is a mess doesn't help."
"Don't worry, bro, I'll help you clean so you can get more time to mentally prepare for your date," Hongjoong assured him with a warm smile.
"It's not a date-"
"Oh, sorry, I meant study date."
___'s pov.
When the GPS said I had arrived to the destination, which was the address Seonghwa had sent, I wasn't shocked to see a big, expensive-looking house.
The house fit pretty boy. He looked and acted like a prince after all.
I knock on the expensive looking door, hoping that it was the right one in case I would have to pay some kind of fee for touching it too harshly if it were someone else's.
After all I don't know how rich neighborhoods work.
The door creaks and a pretty boy appears.
My pretty boy.
"H-Hi," he smiles slightly and motions me in.
The hall is grey and has a few green and blue paintings on the walls to give some color to the monotone place.
"Nice house," I reply and take off my shoes.
"Th-Thank you. Nice," he looks at my face, "ehm, shoes."
"Thank you," I giggle at his awkward state.
"D-Do you want something to drink? I can bring you water or-or soda-?"
"Sure. Water," I sit on his sofa and wonder if it's a sofa or a cloud.
He dashes to what I'm assuming is the kitchen.
I observe the unfamiliar place and see that it's as clean and neat as the outside.
I must've been staring for a while because in a second two glasses of water are on the coffee table as he's sitting on the other end of the sofa waiting for me to speak up.
"So, let's start!"
___'s pov.
"S-Sorry," Seonghwa says after he accidentally touches my arm.
I ignore his apology, since this is the umptenth time he's apologized tonight for the smallest reasons and by now I'm somewhat used to it.
"A-And we could a-add this," he stutters like he's done the whole time I've been here and points to a paragraph in his textbook.
Is he that insecure? He's the perfect student!
I read and smile, "Yes! You're genius."
He returns the smile as his cheeks grow pink.
"Oh, you like praise?" I grin, feeling like the smile is a victory.
The boy gulped and didn't say anything.
I whine.
Why can't he just be more comfortable with me? We've been working for a whole hour now.
I have time to say something since we've come really far in the assignment and it's due to next week.
And so I say what I've been thinking the whole night: "Stop being nervous around me!"
"I'm sorry, Mommy," he says without thinking.
When he realizes what he said he puts his hand in front of his mouth in shock.
All I do is smirk.
That explains a lot.
"I-I-I'm sorry," he apologizes and lowers his head in shame.
I bring his chin up with my index finger and thumb, "No need to apologize, Prince."
He gulps as his face flushes with embarrassment.
"Now, tell me, what did you call me, Prince?" I whisper huskily as I look deeper into his scared eyes.
With closed eyes he whimpers in fear, "M-Mommy."
"Good boy," I praise and see him open his eyes.
His eyes are big and show an emotion he hasn't showed me before.
Thirst.
He's thirsty for praise.
I feel my insides burn.
"Safeword?" I ask him.
"Twilight."
"OK. Mine's horizon."
"OK."
With no hesitation I go for his lips and he immediately responds.
He hums as I lick his lower lip to ask for permission.
With a moan he opens his mouth for me.
"Good boy."
I bring my hand behind his head to push him closer so I can deepen the kisses.
His hair is so damn soft, I tug it.
He keeps his hands for himself like the good boy he is.
I bring my lips away from his and put them on his jaw instead.
"What do you want Mommy to do, Prince?" I say huskily.
"I-I want Mommy to t-touch me," he stutters shyly.
"Say it like a good boy and Mommy might help you."
"Can you pl-please touch me, Mommy?" he pleads with a small voice.
I go lower to his neck and kiss a little harder.
"Mommy, pl-"
I interrupt him by pulling his zipper down.
He gulps again and I kiss his Adam's apple.
"You're so pretty, Prince."
A smile appears and soon is replaced by a gasp as I put my hand down in his underwear.
"So hard for me already? Such a good boy," I praise him when I feel his cock.
"Only for y-you, Mommy."
I smirk and give him a squeeze.
He tries to keep his moan in, but I can tell he wants to moan more.
"Don't be shy now, Prince. Show Mommy how much you like it," I encourage him as I massage his dick a little harder.
A small moan slips past his lips and I smile against his neck.
I pull his pants down, exposing his thighs for me, and make him gulp once again.
"Take them off," I demand him and point to the only piece of clothing left on his lower body.
He locks his eyes with me and watch my every move as he pulls them down, revealing the most desperate and needy part of his body.
I grab his dick, "Good boy."
"Now don't keep your moans for yourself. Mommy wants to hear them," I tell him, looking into his eyes, before going back to his neck.
"Okay, Mo-Mommy," he whimpers at my touch.
I bite gently on his skin and start rubbing him.
He moans freely.
With a smirk I go into the process of creating a hickey.
"Mommy," he whines out.
I spit on his dick to make it easier for me and pump him quicker.
He moans louder at the increase in speed and puts his arms behind himself as he arches his back.
"Such a pretty Prince," I whisper and give a kiss to his neck before sucking it.
"Mommy's pretty Prince," he corrects me confidently and brings my unoccupied hand to his hair.
I tug at it and slowly yank his head back to give more room for me to bless him with more hickeys.
Lewd moans escape his mouth one after one.
"Is my Prince enjoying himself?"
"Y-Yes, Mommy. S-So much," he whimpers, back to stuttering as he trembles.
I tighten my hold on his cock and try to go faster, as I can sense he's close to climax.
By now his neck is adorned with many beautiful marks to show everyone that he's my Prince.
He moans and feels himself get closer to a place he's never been to before.
Damn, is this what sinning feels like? Because then he wants to sin all the time.
I bring his head back and kiss all over his pretty face.
"Pretty," I whisper between every kiss.
His face became redder than before and a smile broke out on his face.
My lips make their way from his cheek to his lips and he happily kisses me back with just as much lust.
For a moment he tries to enter my mouth, but I tighten his dick even harder and make him gasp for air to get the opportunity to get my job back.
"Don't act like I'm not your Mommy," I say as I kiss him.
He whimpers in response and sticks his tongue out in pleasure and creates the perfect ahegao face.
"M-M-Mommy, I'm so close-" he barely lets out.
I give his cheek a last kiss and say the magic sentence he wants to hear: "Cum for me, my Prince."
At my words he lets himself go and gets a taste of a luxury he can't buy.
The moan I earn is long and hoarse.
In a few seconds, when he's more conscious after orgasming, my cum-covered hand is brought in front of his face, "Taste. Taste prettiness."
He looks up into my eyes and does as I said.
Never did he think he would ever eat his cum, since he was always too innocent for that, but he feels like he wants to do everything for you. For your praise.
"Good boy," I smile and plant a kiss to his lips and taste him.
He indeed tastes pretty.
SH's pov.
I proudly step out of my car with my neck covered in highly visible hickeys. The marks are from Mommy. How I feel can be described with one word only.
Pretty.
As I make my way to the building I notice faces around me are pointed in my direction.
Guess they didn't expect this from the good boy of school.
But I don't care as long as I have Mommy, so I walk into school without being bothered.
I try to find a particular face in the crowded hallway and am met by a familiar voice calling me from behind.
"Good morning," Hongjoong greets me and smiles.
"So how was the date?" he asks with a teasing voice and wiggles his eyebrows.
"You know what? You don't even need to answer," he says as he looks at my neck with wide eyes.
"It was unforgettable. She was unforgetta-" I add.
"Speak of the devil," he interrupts me as he looks at something, or rather someone, behind me.
___.
"I must say I really like your new style, Prince," she says as she trails her fingers up the marks on my neck.
"You should wear those pretty hickeys more often."
charming classmate!jisung into doing your sociology homework was simple, almost as much as falling in love with him. although the last part wasnât supposed to happen.
you didnât know how to get out of this situation. how could he take you seriously after youâve been exploiting him for two months?
once youâve summoned up your courage, you walked up to jisung before he would join his soccer team. âhey, y/n! do you need anything?â
ouch, the fact that he thought you only talked to him to have something from him wasnât helping your case.
âum no, exceptââ you took a deep breath. âi want you to stop doing my sociology homework.â
he raised his eyebrows in genuine confusion. âwhatâs wrong? you had a bad note on the last one?â
you groaned. âitâs not that. iâve been exploiting you and itâs not right.â
âi know, i donât mind,â he chuckled and you almost looked terrified by the fact he knew.
âiâ i mind. instead, do you want to grab a bite some time?â
his smile was growing. âonly if you let me help you do your homework then.â you nodded happily and he winked at you. âitâs a date.â
you felt your cheeks getting hot as jisung turned around and jogged to his soccer team that was waiting for him, leaving you with a beaming smile.

After rinsing your hands and wiping the counter, you put your hands on your hips triumphantly. You spared a quick glance at the clock: 3:49am. While every other uni student was sound asleep in their bed or possibly watching third-rate dramas on Viki, you were pulling an all-nighter baking red velvet cupcakes. Not only because red velvet was the best, but also because today was a very special day: March 29th.
Why exactly were you baking red velvet cupcakes at 3:49 in the morning? March 29th, though upon first glance an arbitrary date, was a very significant day: Ireneâs birthday. As your closest cousin since birth, the two of you were like pineapples and pizzaâNAME A MORE ICONIC DUO I DARE YOUâ but had gone your separate ways after graduation.Â
Of course, having neither the time nor means of travel to visit her, you opted to donate the cupcakes to whoever you happened to run into today. Actually, this practice went back years ago; back in junior year of high school, youâd started the tradition of offering baked-from-scratch goodsâ or as you liked to call them, âfriendship batchesââ to random people around campus. Today, you had your eyes set on the kids in your music theory class.Â
To start the new decade off with a bang, you had transferred into Brendonbury. Only three months into the â20s and things were already off to a great start. Your new year's resolution had been to come out of your shell and make some friends, and this, you thought, was your chance to make new friends.
Your last friendship batch had been cheesecake bites, and the one before that was browniesâthough you preferred not to think about those. Youâd been experimenting with making healthy avocado brownies, and tried substituting all the ingredients with healthy alternatives⌠but the finished product was not good for anyoneâs health. You grimaced, recalling the soggy, raw disaster. Shouldâve skipped out on the lamb sauce.
But that dark past was long over. This time, youâd found a legit recipe to avoid any mishaps. A legit recipe paired with legit ingredients. Anyways, youâd made a number of good friends through your sweets (not including the brownies), so you hoped this time would be another success. You carefully packed away the cupcakes and stowed the container in your backpack.
Hmm⌠you pondered as you listened to the quiet tick of the clock. Iâve got class at 8. Itâs pretty much morning already⌠so thereâs no point in going to sleep now~Â
You flopped onto your bed, but instead of sleeping, you squandered your time scrolling through boiling hot tea on Twitter. Around 6am, you began to nod off, but before you knew it, the sun was already up. In fact, it was a little too high in the sky. You were tempted to roll back over and go back to sleep, but a frantic voice at the back of your mind urged you to check the clock. You reached for your phone, and pried open your eyes.
9:29?! Just one blink and 4 hours went by! Wide awake, you bolted out of your bed and sprinted into the bathroom. At record-breaking speed, you brushed your teeth, washed your face, changed your clothes, and tied your hair.Â
Luckily, your roommate and bestie, Lia, had foreseen your predicament. Out on the dining table was a plastic Pyrex container with leftovers from breakfast.Â
âOh, I love you, Lia,â you murmured gratefully as you snatched the container, then bounded out the door.
With a loud bang, you burst into the lecture hall, interrupting the professor mid-sentence.Â
âWell, well, if it isnât the guest of honor!â Professor Brendonbury sneered, shooting you a look. Every head swiveled to see the lackadaisical sack of potatoes that had disrupted the lesson.Â
âSorry, Mr. Brendonbury⌠carry on,â you answered, your cheeks tinting cherry red. Panting and disheveled, you scoured the room for an empty seat. Luckily, it appeared there was one left. You dumped your bag on the ground and collapsed into the chair, burying your face in your hands in embarrassment.
âRight on time,â the boy next to you remarked with a playful grin.Â
âUgh⌠he didnât have to call me out like that!â You banged your head on the table miserably. âI shouldâve just gone back to sleepâŚâ
âThen why didnât you?âÂ
âYeah, well, this isnât exactly a class I can afford to miss.â
âHaha, nerd~â
âWhat did you expect?â You sighed. âThatâs music theory for you.â
Theory. You shuddered at the sound of the word. On its own, theory was a menacing enough course, but the class got its dreadful rep from the notorious Professor Brendonbury. If you missed so much as a day of his class... You shuddered at the thought. Youâd never imagined that your GPA could get any lower.Â
âWhatâre you talking about?â The boy cocked his head. âTheory is fun. This is the only class I donât have to study for. But this isnât my major anyways, so Iâm not that worried.â
âThen what do you major in?â
âIâm undeclared for now, but Iâm thinking either economics or graphic design. What about you?â
âIâm also undeclared! Except... music theory isnât treating me that well⌠haha. I definitely know what I wonât be majoring in.â
Theory⌠fun? Could not be me. Music theory had to be the wackest class youâd ever taken. Seventh chords, the 12-tone scale, the dance suitesâ you didnât get any of it. In fact, after scoring 3 solid Cs in a row, you were half-convinced you were tone-deaf.
To your relief, you werenât the only tone-deaf in the class; every day, the group chat was flooded with confused questions, rants, and curses against Brendonbury. So, youâd figured that his class was just one of those claw-games at the arcade: rigged af.Â
One time last summer, you and Irene had gone to the mall to catch up for the first time since you guys started uni. Sheâd dragged you to the arcade, stepped up to the claw machine and shot you her signature grin. âBet you a Cinnabon I win something.â
Despite not having any money on you, youâd laughed and agreed, knowing full well there was no way in hell youâd have to buy one. But to your shock, lo and behold, she brandished the fluffiest plushie out of all of them.
Though you lost the bet, she ended up buying an extra large cinnamon roll for the two of you to share. You smiled fondly, recalling the memory.
Throughout the course of high school, Irene had taught you so many lessons, but this one in particular stood out: âimpossibleâ in your eyes could very well be an opportunity you were missing out on.
Right now, you felt like youâd lost the bet all over again. Instead, this time, you were betting on your grade and you were competing against people who werenât so nice.
Where can I meet someone like that again? You sighed. People like Irene didnât come along very often, and when they did, they were typically out of your league.
â...but the directions are uploaded on my site. You are dismissed.âÂ
All around you, backpacks were being zipped and chairs were scraping on the ground. You had gotten so caught up in your heartwarming flashback that you didnât even realize that class was over. Snapping back into reality, you whipped your head towards the boy beside you.
âWhatâŚ? What directions?âÂ
âWhy bother barging into class if youâre not gonna listen?â the boy laughed. He zipped up his black backpack, then slung it over his shoulder.
Damn, just got roasted like a marshmallow set on fire. Your cheeks became the tint of the wretched cupcakes that made you late in the first place. âI was listening! I just got a little... distracted.âÂ
âIndividual project, compose a piece based on the guidelines heâs posted.â
You groaned theatrically, pulling at your hair and slamming your head against the table once again. A project?! Normally, you found composing pretty fun, but the word âprojectâ was a word of sacrilege.
âBest piece gets extra credit.â
Your ears perked up at the sound of the word.
âE-extra credit? In Brendonbury?â You squeaked in disbelief.
The boy turned to leave, but you stopped him in his tracks with your talk no jutsu.
âBet my piece will be better than yours,â you challenged.
âUhmâŚexcuse me? Isnât that subjective?â The boy was taken aback by your spontaneity.
âBetter by Brendonburyâs standards,â you answered.Â
âOkay, whatâre we betting?â He turned to face you, eyes glowing with confidence. So sure of himself. You shot him an ardent grin.
âCupcakes. Red velvet cupcakes. A whole batch, in fact.âÂ
The boy returned your smile, and held his hand out. âAlright, youâre on, uhhhâŚâ he trailed off awkwardly. It hadnât even occurred to you that neither of you knew each otherâs names.
â...y/n,â you finished for him, taking his hand. âMay the best piece winâŚâÂ
âHyunjin, and that would be my piece,â he grinned cheekily. The two of you shook on it, sealing the deal.
âWeâll see about that.âÂ
You looked into your backpack and pulled out your cupcakes.
âHey, Hyunjin!â You called, stopping him in his tracks again. âWanna try a cupcake before you bet on the whole batch?â
âSure!â He took one daintily, waved goodbye, then bounded out the door for his next class.
And so, you went off to embrace your inner virtuoso and compose the greatest masterpiece the world had ever witnessed.
In your dreams.Â
No. Literally, in your dreams. You were completely drained from only four hours of sleep. Under normal circumstances, four hours would be an adequate amount; you just werenât accustomed to sleeping at 6am. As a result, after crawling back to your apartment, you flung yourself onto the couch and knocked out.
You must've slept the entire week, because when you stepped into the class the next day, you saw everyone discussing the project.
âWhy are you guys so pressed about the project? It's not like it's due tomorrow or anything,â you said matter-of-factly.
The group of students that youâd interrupted stopped their conversation and scrutinized you with disdain. âUhm⌠it isâŚ? Did you even check the instructions?â Jiwon said, chewing her gum and batting her eyes slowly in annoyance.
âWhere?â you asked, and slid your hand into your pocket, digging for your phone.
Jiwon rolled her eyes. âYou would know if you were in the group chat,â she huffed.
As you fumbled with your phone, Jisoo advised, âI think youâd better hurry. Just planning the structure yesterday took me like, 6 hours.â She pulled out her phone, and tapped in some numbers into the calculator with her long, newly manicured nails. âYou have exactly 21.4 hours.â
ii.
âCompose a multimeter original piece using nonimitative polyphony, contrary motion, a picardy third, and utilize all four types of cadences,â you read wearily. After scrolling through just the first page of the pdf, you were about to tear your hair out.Â
I signed up for this class to learn about jazz composition, not classical music, you thought wearily. Great. Now Iâve just gotta figure out what the heck this stuff means.Â
You spent half an hour researching on the terms, and you still didnât get any of them. In frustration, you collapsed onto the rug. You felt hopeless and in dire need of serotonin.Â
Turning to your side, you punched a few digits into your phone and set it on speaker. âYo, hoe. Get me the peppermint macchiato and strawberry lava cake from Miaâs.âÂ
There was a brief pause as your sister berated you.
âNo? You have class? Use my own money? Iâm getting fat? You know what, if you keep doing this, I think Iâm gonna have to tell lover-boy Jared about the time youââ You heard a sigh on the other side of the line, and a sharp beep.Â
You sat up to stretch, smirking to yourself. Lucy Lee was a trashy older sister, but you knew just how to keep her in check.
â¤
You slurped your macchiato and munched your lava cake barbarically as your sister looked on with disgust. It was unfathomable that the two of you could even be related, let alone be siblings.
âWoah, buddy. Take it easy, that was $15.23,â your sister Lucy said. There was a moment of silence. âWell, Iâm not going to sit here all day to watch your mukbang. If you donât need me for anything else, Iâm going.â
You attempted to call her through your stuffed mouth, but instead choked on the crumbs. âHey, wait!â
âWhat is it now?â
âIâm on the verge of failing Brendonbury.â
âWow. Who wouldâve seen that coming?â
âHe assigned a stupid project and I donât get anything heâs asking us to do.â
âWhy the hell did you even sign up for music theoryâ music theory with Brendonbury no less? You brought this onto yourself, you dumb arse. Donât tell me I didnât warn youâI think I recall telling you to sign up for that graphic design class before it was too late.â
âShaddup, my self-esteemâs already at rock bottom. Come on, donât you know anyone who can help me? A tutor, maybe?â You begged with your hands clasped together.
âUhhh, well, my roommateâs little bro is a music major. You might know him, he tutors at the library sometimes.â
âAnd who might that be?â
Your sister scrunched her brow, and then dug through some text messages on her phone. After a minute or two of scrolling, her eyes lit up and she showed you her screen. Oh, it was a name youâd hoped youâd never see again.
Felix Lee.

You flopped onto your bed and screamed violently into your pillow. Suddenly, you started to contemplate your life decisions. If you hadnât made the big brain decision to go into music theory, where might you be now?Â
Maybe this is retribution for the sins I committed in my past life. I wouldnât be surprised if this Brendonbury dude really was a spawn from hell.Â
Suddenly, you felt a buzzing next to you. Briefly lifting your head from your sunk-in pillow to see who it was from, you answered the phone call.
âLia?â
âHey, y/n! Since itâs the weekend, we were thinking of crashing at Nancyâs party tonight. Wanna come?â
You paused. Needless to say, you were extremely reluctant to turn her down. She was your closest friend in this whole wide school, and would always remember to include you in her plans, no matter how busy she got. Julia Choi was a human you didnât deserve.
âUmmâŚâ
âHello? Y/n?â
âAhhhh Iâm sosoosos sorry Lia I know this is going to sound like a really lame excuse, but I have a super big Brendonbury project due in exactly...18.2 hours. And I havenât started. It would be really cool if you sent me some pictures of you from the party! Again, Iâm super super sorry, you can invite me to anything anytime after Iâm out of this Brendonbury hellhole.â
Just like that, you ended the careers of many SoundCloud rappers. You just hoped you werenât ending your friendship with Lia by skipping out on the party.
âOh! Itâs no big deal. I can just ask a few other friends, or maybe, I should just come back to the dorm to study for Sanders, haha. Good luck with your project!â
âYeah, thanks. ByeâŚ.â you trailed off, then hung up. You sunk back into your pillow, and lay there for a while, before resolving to take matters into your own hands.
iii.
You sat on a seat in front of a polished wooden table, and nervously tapped your ceramic cappuccino cup. Youâd booked a tutor on your schoolâs online tutoring system, and were now waiting for your tutor to appear. But for some strange reason, the admins hadnât told you what his name was.Â
As you were idly waiting, stirring your coffee and playing with the corners of your notebook paper, you took in your surroundings. Itâd been a while since you last stopped by the schoolâs coffee shop. Apart from the cool new spring flower planter installation, Miaâs was the same as ever. Overpriced af. Still, it was refreshing to have a style change every once in a while in the crumbling, ancient building.
As you took another sip of your drink, the doorâs bell jingled, and in strolled a boy wearing a black beanie and baggy sweatpants. Before you could even react, heâd made his way over.Â
âHey! Y/n, right?â
âY-yeah. Hyunjin? What are you doing here?â You gulped, praying to whatever deity who cared enough to listen that he wasnât the tutor.
âOh, Iâm here to work with my friends on some new graphic designs. Also to brush up on some code. I almost always go to Miaâs whenever I have group work.â He leaned his back on the planter across from you. âWhat about you?â
I wonder who this cool coder friend of his is. I wonder if Lucy knows, you thought to yourself.Â
âOh, um.â Crap. He canât find out that youâre the one being tutored, y/n. You racked your brain for a quick excuse. âIâm just here to work on my Brendonbury project! Itâs nice to work outside of the dorm once in a while.âÂ
âAh...I still need to finish annotating my piece. Thanks for reminding me, I wouldâve forgotten.â Hyunjin turned on his phone and typed something in.
âAlso, Jiwon told me something about a group chat for this project, do you happen to be in it?â
âYeah,â he said, just as he was about to pocket his phone. âDo you want me to add you?â
âYeah, let me give you my phone numberâŚâ you said, and he handed his phone over to you to type it in. The two of you were so occupied that you missed the ill-timed entrance of your tutor.
âWell, well, well. Arenât I a lucky guy? I never expected that after all these years, Iâd be y/nâs tutor!â
âFelix?â You and Hyunjin turned simultaneously to take in a blonde boy in a blue-striped button up shirt. Felix? You cursed his embarrassingly melodramatic butt silently. You shared lots of memories with him, but they were ones you wished you could forget.Â
âAnd I certainly didnât expect the two of you to be exchanging numbers⌠a week into class!â Felix smirked, nudging his friend with his elbow. âDidnât know you took music theory.â
âSoâŚyou're tutoring her?â Hyunjin said, bewildered. âDo you two know each other?â
Your face was beet red in your embarrassment. Great. So Felix was Hyunjinâs chic coder friend. This is so embarrassing. Clearing your throat, you pulled Felix by his sleeve. âRight. So you gonna tutor me or not?â you asked, scowling.
âBye Hyunjin!â you mouthed, waving him away frantically.
âOkay, see you guys later then!â Hyunjin said with a small, knowing smile, and left for an empty table at the other side of the cafe.
After making sure he left, you stared daggers at the boy seated across from you with disdain. Heâd been your neighbor all through elementary and middle schoolâ no, he wasnât just some âneighborâ. You didnât really know how to describe your relationship with him. Frenemies? Somewhat. Mortal enemies? More accurate.
âWhat are you doing here?â you asked, arms crossed, with a small smile. âI havenât seen you after that party at Aishaâs at the end of eighth grade.â
âI should be asking you what youâre doing here. Brendonbury, huh~â he cocked his head inquisitively. âNever thought youâd be one to go into music theory~âÂ
âWhat do you mean? What kind of classes do you think Iâd take?â You were somewhat curious about his impression of you.Â
âUhhhh probably something like algebra or physics? I dunno, something dorky.âÂ
âExcuse me?! Dorky?!?!â Infuriated, you stomped his foot with the sharp heel of your leather boots.
âAck, hey! What the hell was that for?â The jerk indignantly massaged his toes as if he hadnât said anything wrong.
âBack then, I was âchicken nuggets for brainsâ because I didnât study enough, but now that I know a thing or two, youâre calling me a dork? Forget it.â You collected your things and got to your feet. âI'm not getting tutored today.â
âWhere do you think youâre going? You called me all the way out here and now youâre just packing up and leaving? Come on, donât you think thatâs kinda rude?â he said, all the while smirking.
âYou think I wanted you to be my tutor? Forget it,â you huffed. âYouâre the last person Iâm getting tutored by. Iâd rather fail.â You turned away and started towards the door.Â
âHey, come on, you arenât really leaving, are you? Thatâs not very nice, y/n.â
Just pretend that he doesnât exist. Damn jerk. You picked up your pace, not wanting to be in the same room as him for even a second longer. He looked so different from before, but he was still the same, pretentious douche who only ever communicated through flippant remarks.
âWait, y/n, donât go. I was kidding, come on!âÂ
Without warning, you were yanked back. That damn jerk had exposed you, made fun of you, and now he was grabbing you by the wrist.Â
âWhat is your problem?! You can whine all you want about how hard it was for you to haul your ass over here. I donât careâ youâre being a rear end, and Iâm sick of it!âÂ
âThatâs notâ agh, I didnât know youâd be so touchy about it! I didnât mean it⌠I was kidding. Anyways, we both took time out of our schedules to come here, so letâs just get on with it. Truce?â Felix held his hands up in surrender. âI promise, I don't bite.â
âNo! No truce!â You were still very much pissed. âYouâre always âkidding,â ever since elementary school and even now. Why canât you grow up already?âÂ
âYou arenât a dork. I was trying to say that youâre smart. Itâs kinda weird. I mean, back in the day, you were the only kid who didnât know how to multiply, and you didnât know the difference between an adjective and an adverbââ
âHey! Whyâre you bringing that up nowââ you started.
Suddenly, you noticed a shift in the atmosphere of the cafe.  Your obnoxious bickering had shattered the formerly serene vibe, and the cafeâs patrons were glaring at the two of you. You could feel their eyes burning into you like lasers.
ââbut now, you have your life together: you put in effort and you worked your way here.âÂ
You eyed him suspiciously. His attitude, demeanor, everything just did a 180. There was a catch, you just knew there was.
âYour sweet talk was not very effective. What do you really want, Felix Lee?â Your face was turning red as more and more people were looking at you.
âHehe, got me. What Iâm really after, rather than volunteer hours, is⌠your heartââ Scrunching his face in a playful grin, he took both your hands in his.
You sighed in exasperation. There was just no end to this kidâs antics. Pulling him away, you hissed obscenities under your breath.Â
âYouâre insufferable. You know what? Fine. Iâll do it for my mom and for my grade. As long as you help me put up with Brendonbury.â You plodded back to your seat and set your 99 ton backpack on the ground with a large thud.
âI knew you wouldnât go,â he smiled. âIâm just too irresistible.â
âIrresistible my ass,â you hissed, stomping him under the table for the second time. âAnd that was for being a jerk.â
âCome on, I already said sorry for that!â
âBy the end of this, Iâd better have a masterpiece to turn in,â you grumbled. âOne that's better than Hwang Hyunjinâs.â
You wondered whether extra credit was worth the trouble of dealing with this douche.
â¤
âI...still donât get it.â You threw down your cheap dollar store pen and ruffled your hair in frustration.
âI still donât get how you could be so slow,â Felix muttered under his breath.
âSays someone who majors in computer science but still takes cross disciplinary classes for fun,â you retorted, crossing your arms.
âOkay, letâs see,â Felix continued, ignoring your comment. âWe need to find a new way for you to understand this material. We need an easy analogy.â
âWhatâs something you enjoy? Like, a hobby, maybe?â
You took a moment to think, then responded, âBaking, I guess. Red velvet cupcakes.â
âNow, think about baking those cupcakes! Youâll need ingredients, and youâll need to follow a series of steps to get it correctly. The style of music is the type of cupcake. Cupcakes all share the same basic ingredients, but small additions make all the difference. For example, jazz would be different from rock, so the mood and rhythm of the piece will be different, although they use the same musical notes. Rememberâthey are just arranged differently.â
You nodded, taking notes as he spoke.
âYou see these weird terms?â Felix asked, shaking a packet of vocabulary words. âTheyâre just fancy words for the ingredients you want in your piece. Youâll need a base, and the add ons just make the cupcake taste better. And in this case, make the music more complex and sound better. To give an example, adding more trills is like adding more sprinkles. Adding more makes it taste better, but too much makes it too sweet. You have to find a balance.â
Felix paused, waiting for your aching wrist to catch up on writing notes.
âOf course, you canât have a cupcake without baking it. This is how structure works. You have to choose the type of mold.â
âSo, itâs like, if I want to make cupcakes, I have to use a baking cup?â
âExactly! Of course, people are constantly breaking composing norms and making new, experimental music. Thatâs why itâs called contemporary music.â
âHmmâŚâ You tilted your head at your notes, clicking your pen.
âGet the analogy?â
âYeah. I just donât know how to put it together.â
âAlright! This is where music is different from baking. Thereâs no step by step way to make your own music. You just have to feel it, and write down whatever sounds good. Music is just a recipe for a special type of noise.â
Your eyes grew wide. âThanks, Felix. I donât think Iâll ever be able to unthink that.â
âDo you have any more questions?â
âYeah, just a few terms here and there. But I think I got this.â You said, slowly. âThanks, that was quite helpful. I think Iâll call thisâŚâ You gave a small smile, as you gave a title to the new page of notes you just took.
The Red Velvet Theory.
â¤
âOoh, someoneâs been productive~â Hyunjin whistled, taking out his earbuds to listen to you run your music on the laptop. The product of your blood, sweat, and tears for the last 4 hours.âThough Iâm surprised you managed to get things done with this idiot at your side.â
âThat makes two of us,â you remarked with a sigh.
âNow it makes three of us,â Felix chimed in, looking up from the rhythm game he was playing on his phone. âIâm really impressed you got things done without being distracted by my awesomeness.âÂ
âOh, shut up,â you and Hyunjin said in unison. Your eyes met, and the two of you snickered. When it came to anything Felix-related, you felt like you and Hyunjin could already read each other's minds. Telepathy.Â
âJinx,â Felix remarked. âNow you guys both owe me a dollar. Pay up.â
âAnd y/n,â he added, âI expect extra. You know, a reimbursement for my hard work.âÂ
âLike hell.â You looked over at Hyunjin, and the two of you burst into a laughing fit once more.
âAhhh, Iâve fallen victim to extortion. Come on, you think these services are free?!â
âWhat âservicesâ are you going on about, weirdo?â Hyunjin gave him an icy side glance that could freeze the Sahara Desert over. Your last remaining brain cell did a double take before processing the dirtiness of Felixâs statement.Â
âI exist to serveââ
You put up your hands to shut him up. âOkay, Iâm gonna have to stop you right there.â
Hyunjin shot you a sign of approval. âNice one, y/n! And as for you,â he flicked the forehead of a distracted Felix, âdonât you dare even think about doing something weird to y/n.â
Felix chuckled, eyes not leaving his phone game. After the last game, he turned off his phone and bounded off to the upstairs library to grab a book.
You smiled distractedly, not bothering to take your eyes off your paper. A perfect fourth sounds too generic⌠maybe I could go for a major seventh chord instead. But then it might sound too richâ
âWorking hard, huh?â You nearly jumped out of your skin. Youâd been so absorbed in your work that you hadnât realized that Hyunjin had been watching you work over your shoulder.Â
âHey, youâre good at this! You werenât lying earlier, when you said theory was hard? Or were you being modest?â
âHa⌠haha. I wish,â you sighed.
âOh, come on. You should have more faith in yourself! On the other hand, Felix could learn a thing or two from you.â
Oh, the irony.
âAnyways, Iâm gonna head to my dorm to get started on my piece. Good luck with yours! And call me if that weirdo starts acting weird or anything! See ya,â he waved goodbye before leaving the cafe.
â¤
10:29 pm.Â
âHahhhhh, finally finished!â You held the score up to the light in triumph.Â
âAbout time. Gimme that, I need to check the ending.â
Exhausted, you shoved the whole stack of papers into his face. A look of scrutiny painted on his face, he flipped through the pages, scratching a few notes here and there.Â
After his thorough examination, he revealed the verdict. âItâs pretty okay. Though you could improve it byâ hey, letâs go.âÂ
You blinked groggily, wondering if you mightâve misheard the last part. âWhat? Improve it by what?â
âImprove it by going to bed, getting a good nightâs sleep, then making your final tweaks in the morning with a clear mind,â he said. Shuffling the papers together, he got to his feet, then collected the rest of your items strewn across the table, and helped you pack it into your backpack.
âThanks,â you murmured sleepily. âThatâs uncharacteristically nice of you.â
âWhat do you mean âuncharacteristicallyâ?! Iâm nice!â
âI beg to difââ Then suddenly, a black mass was thrown at you.
Did I just die? you wondered to yourself. Maybe his act of kindness ended the world. Some things are just not meant to be.
The end of the world was warm, fluffy, and surprisingly comfortable. In fact, it wasnât the end of the world at all. It was Felixâs hoodie.Â
âHurry up! Itâs so dark outside,â Felix scolded. âThe cafe is closing.â
âWhatâs it to you, anyways? Whyâd you even wait this long? You shouldâve left earlier, then!â you grumbled in annoyance, stamping your feet. âAlso, whatâs this? Your hoodie?â
âBut someone might kidnap you when no oneâs looking! And youâre gonna get sick if you stay out too late. Just put it on. I donât want to have to tutor you if you ever miss even one day of BrendonburyâÂ
âWhat are you, my mom?â
âHere.â Felix crouched down, then motioned for you to get on his back. âCall your roommate and tell her to come pick you up.â
You pulled out your phone and texted Lia. Then, too tired to argue, you climbed onto his back and enjoyed a quiet, comfortable ride back to the dorm. Falling asleep to the lull of his strides, you didnât even realize that you were hitching a piggyback ride from your mortal enemyâa surprisingly comfy ride.Â
âHere we are,â he announced, gently putting you down. âYour roommate here yet?âÂ
You took a quick glance at your phone, then nodded. âYeah, sheâs coming. And⌠thanks. For helping me, for staying so late, and for the piggyback ride.âÂ
âHmm⌠Iâm gonna have to bill you an extra 10 dollarsââ he grinned playfully.Â
âHey!â you interjected. Shouldâve seen that coming. Felix, you never change, do you.Â
âKidding, Iâm kidding. Hurry up and go to sleep! And donât forget to set your alarm. Iâm gonna call you at 5 am sharp.âÂ
âOkay, Iâm going, Iâm going. See ya around,â you smiled. Beneath his annoying facade, Felix was a total worrywart.Â
âDonât forget! 5 am!âÂ
âUgh, why so early?! Thatâs self-harm! I canât get up until the sun comes out!!âÂ
âSuck it up. You can always take a nap afterwards, anyways. Now hurry up and go.âÂ
âAlright, bye.â With a final wave, you ran to the dorm door, where Lia was waiting.
âHmm⌠staying out so late⌠with a guyâŚ?! Could it be, could my little y/n finally be growing upâŚ?!â She squished your cheeks endearingly, then took your backpack from you.Â
âNah, I was just getting tutored. It isnât like that,â you explained. But a tiny part of you kinda wished it was.Â
âSure, sure. Heâs at least an 8~ Itâs a heart-racing tale of love between an unsuspecting bookworm determined to pass her class and her hot, playboy tutor!â Lia grinned in amusement of the third-rate drama plot sheâd fabricated.
âGeez, you gotta stop spending so much time on Viki. I told you it isnât like that!â
âBut youâre blushing~â she teased. To your surprise, your cheeks were hot and there was a fluttering feeling in your stomach.
What the hell, y/n! This is the first time youâve seen him in 5 years, and heâs a total jerk! Get your shit together! You slapped your cheeks to bring yourself back to reality, but the butterflies wouldnât go away.Â
As soon as you stepped through the door frame, you threw your backpack down and flopped straight into bed. âIâm gonna sleep first, then finish my work in the morning. Thanks again, Lia.âÂ
âWhere are you going?! Go brush your teeth and change!â She hauled you out of bed and pushed you into the bathroom. You seriously abhorred having a second mother.
After you washed up and got into your pajamas, suddenly, you didnât feel so tired anymore. Your phone beckoned for you to pick it up and browse through memes. Though you knew you were just shooting yourself in the foot, and of course, you obliged, scrolling through them one after another until 3 hours had flown by. Unexpectedly, despite the ungodly hour, your phone buzzed with a text.
[hyunjin]

iv.
It was a breezy, cloudy morning, one perfect for coffees and buy-one-get-one-free deals. You grabbed a warm latte at Miaâs, only to be pleasantly surprised with a free latte. Without even trying to conceal the smile on your face, you grabbed the two coffees and bounded out the door.
You woke up this morning feeling super-motivated. In your excitement, you felt that you could almost save the world. That is, if you could save your sanity and your grades first. Strolling casually into Brendonbury, you slid onto the seat next to Hyunjin. âI gotchu a coffee.â
The boy next to you broke into a wide smile as he took the drink with both hands. âThanks, but whyâd you think to get me a drink?â
âHmmm...I guess I just felt nice today.â You shot him a playful smile.
âYouâre not late today, surprisingly. Did you take the wrong allergy medicine this morning?â He mused. âOr did my sleeping spell wear off that quickly?â
âPerhaps I just felt confident that things are going to go my way today. You know, I actually feel proud that I was able to finish my project. Itâs not...half as bad as I thought it would be.â
âI think Iâm still going to win, if thatâs what it takes to get a whole batch of red velvet cupcakes,â he said self-assuredly. âIf the offerâs still up.â
Crap. Youâd forgotten about that. But then again, it wouldnât be so bad to bake another batch anyway. âOf course,â you replied back. âWeâll have to see who gets the extra credit first.â
Suddenly, the loud chatter in the room quickly reduced to hushed whispers as the students scrambled into their seats. The lecture hallâs door swung open, and a man of short stature strode in.
The air was tense as Brendonbury, the round, pot-bellied teacher, entered the classroom with the graded compositions. You felt cold sweat beading on your palms, which you frantically tried to wipe away on your skinny jeans. Please don't let him win, you thought, quietly praying. The suspense from the last couple of days of waiting was killing you, and your stomach churned in fear of what was to come next.
Hyunjin leaned towards your direction, not taking his eyes off of the teacher. âI heard his TA, Peter Han, helped him grade the papers,â he whispered.
âWait, the one on SoundCloud?â you asked quizically.
âThe very one who studied in Malaysia and Korea, and is now back to complete his PHD in musical production.â
Damn. You weren't sure what was more surprising: the fact that Brendonbury hasn't graded a student paper in his career, or someone so professional existed... as this manâs TA.
âAhem,â Brendonbury cleared his throat awkwardly in the lecture hall, and the sound waves echoed off the walls all the way to the back of the room. Making his presence known (he really didn't even have to clear his throat, even a dust particle would be wary of this presence), he threw the thick packet of graded papers on the desk.Â
âSo the projects are graded, and Iâm going to call your name for you to pick it up. Big thank you to my TA for helping me out again with these papers...he reviewed all of them thoroughly and I am proud to say that everyone did a great job this time around.â
Fumbling with his spectacles, he finally put them on after much effort. âAs for the student who won first placeâŚâ
The air hung still. The room was silent, and your heart was in your throat. You could feel the sweat beads squeezing out of your pores; there was nothing else on your mind but winning. Please let it be me, please let it be me, pleaseâ
âY-y-n-â the teacher stuttered. âOh, sorry, the winner is Arnold Day. Congrats!â
There were a few scattered applauses in the room, and mostly discontented moaning.Â
Hyunjin frowned as a curly-haired boy with braces went up to claim his assignment. âArnold? Iâd bet a hundred bucks that Seo Changbin from econ can produce better tracks than this kid. Heck, he could do classical if he were to start today.â
His words went in one ear and filed out the other. You responded to him with just silence, as you stared blankly at the grey wall.
âHey, Iâm sure you did great.â
You felt a comforting hand on your shoulder, and you smiled at its owner in return for the kind gesture. You werenât too sure how to respond. âThanks, you too.â
As Brendonbury called out the names, each student walked up to the front of the room to claim their graded work. After the two of you sat back down, you decided to lighten up the atmosphere.
âOh, by the way. What happens when neither of us wins? Do I still have to bake a batch of cupcakes for you?â You blinked at him, as if it were a serious question.
âMmmâŚâ Hyunjin tilted his face, trying to read your face. âMaybe?â
You giggled at his innocent response, then grabbed your planner to add something else to your schedule.

You sat at a table at Miaâs (more specifically, the one where you were tutored), anxiously waiting for the arrival of Felix. You had a whole batch of cupcakes on the table, and a tightly sealed envelope with a letter inside. Your feelings were burning you up from the inside, and your OCD had you checking your phone every 25 seconds.
âSo what did you want?âÂ
You jumped out of your skin. The chair beside you had been occupied; in your anxiety, you didnât hear the scrape signifying Felixâs arrival.Â
âWhat the heck was that for?!â you cried indignantly, then smacked him across the back of the head.Â
âAkskfn hey! What was that for?! What did I even do wrong?!âÂ
âDonât sneak up on me next time,â you huffed, crossing your arms.
âSneak up on youâŚ? When did I evenâ okay, sure. So whyâd you call me out, anyways?â
It felt as if your heart was going to stop. Why are you so freaking nervous, y/n? Itâs common courtesy to say thanks. Just hand him the letter like you practiced.Â
âHere, this is a letter⌠I wrote⌠for youâŚâ you trailed off, cursing silently. Why do you have to be so damn awkward, y/n?!
You scrunched your eyes closed in anxious apprehension of Felixâs response. When he didnât say anything, you peeked at him, stomach full of dread.Â
âHuh? Whatâd you say?â Felix was on his phone, tapping the screen fervently. âWait, lemme finish this mission up first.â
âWhy donât you put your phone down,â you suggested forcefully.Â
âI know, I know! Itâs almost done, I just need toââ
âYou damn game addict! You look like a vampire. Some face to face communication would do you some good,â you berated.
âShut up! Why donât you take a good look in the mirror before talking?â he shot back. âYouâre crustier than the booger that fell out of my nose this morning.â
âWell, at least Iââ
âYou two sure are close,â a voice cut through your bickering. âHey, y/n. Looks like we meet again.âÂ
âOh, Hyunjin. I was hoping to run into you,â you smiled.
âWhatâre you doing here? Go away. Me and y/n are having some bonding time, so you better stay out of it,â Felix smirked, sticking his tongue out at his friend.
ââBondingâ time? Donât you just mean âsitting around fiddling with your phoneâ time?!â Irritated, you flicked his forehead with all the strength you could muster.
âOuch! Why do you gotta be so freaking violent, y/n?!â Without taking his eyes off his device, he rubbed his head indignantly.
âJust giving you what you deserve,â you replied nonchalantly.
âWhat do you mean, âwhat I deâââ Felix started.
âOh, right. Before I forget, tada! Here are your cupcakes! They might be sorta crumbly, but they were made with love, hehe. Wanna try one?â You held out a deformed cupcake proudly, but no one took it.
âUh⌠Hyun...jin? Huh? Whereâd he go?â Confused, you whipped your head around, scanning the cafe for your rival, but he was nowhere to be found.Â
âGuess he got scared of you and ran away,â Felix teased.
âOh, shut up. I gotta go find him.â
You scooped up the cupcakes and flew out the door in hot pursuit of your unsuspecting target. He had his hands in his hoodie pocket, walking briskly.Â
âStop right there, Mr. HyunjinâŚHwang, was it?âÂ
Bewilderment written all over his face, Hyunjin spun to face you. ââOh, y/n? Need something?âÂ
âWhyâd you leave? You couldâve at least said bye, you know,â you frowned.
âUh⌠well, it looked like you and Felix were in the middle of something, and I didnât wanna interrupt. Sorry,â he smiled apologetically.
âItâs not like we were doing anything serious. Wait, this isnât because of what he said earlier about having bonding time, is itâŚ?âÂ
âNah. I just didnât wanna get caught up in your barrage of insults, haha. Nice job setting him straight. Anyways, whatâd you run after me for?âÂ
âI believe I promised you one dozen red velvet cupcakes, and I intend to follow through.â You presented your masterpieces: twelve somewhat edible lumps of diabetes.Â
âAh⌠you actually made them. I thought you were kidding. But⌠Iâm fine. Iâd feel bad if you gave them to me without getting anything in return.â Hyunjin held his hands up, warding away your gifts. His feet shifted away from you, his eyes tinged with a hint of pain.
âTake. Them.â You thrusted the diabetes into his arms, but he pushed you away.Â
âNo.âÂ
âTake them.â
âNuh-uh.â
âCome on, are you really gonna insult me like that?! I went through all this hard work to make them, and theyâre gonna spoil in a few days!âÂ
âIâm on a diet, anyways. Iâm getting kinda thicc,â Hyunjin mustered a weak smile, patting his belly. âBut I appreciate the sentiment,â he added.Â
âJust take them! As a symbol of our friendship, and as a toast to a year of suffering and damnation in Brendonbury.â
âHaha⌠itâs gonna be a long yearâŚâÂ
âAre you taking graphic design next year?â
âMost likely, yeah.â Hyunjin scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
âCatch you in Watsonâs class next year, then.â You threw him a wink and a finger gun. âYou can be my graphic design buddy.â
Shoving the dozen cupcakes into his hands, you made one last remark, âIâd rather have a fat buddy than a buddy who wonât accept my gifts. A deal is a deal.â Turning around, you quickly bounded back in the direction of the cafe.
As you turned around, Hyunjin walked in the opposite direction. The boyâs cheeks turned the color of the pink dusk sky. He played with the dead autumn leaves, creating a satisfying crunch every time he stepped on one. He walked like this, cupcakes in hand, as each step took him one bit closer to home.
Itâs nice to have a friend like y/n. A buddy. For some reason, the word tasted a little bitter on his tongue.
You looked in the cafe window, and saw Felix staring back at you. It was hard to read his face, his expression a concoction of...confusion? Happiness?Â
He mustâve read the letter.Â
You were too scared to go in and find out. Instead, you quickly waved at him and ran all the way back to the dorm. Face twice as red and heart beating fast, you grabbed your phone to send him a text that you went back to your room. Unable to speak or even exist in the same space as yourself, you threw yourself onto your bed.Â
I want to know what he was thinking... You lifted your head off your pillow. No, y/n, what were you thinking? You buried your face into the pillow once more. Dammit. I want to cry, but if I cry, I canât do anything else!
Then came a dreaded buzz. Heart racing, you read the notifications.
[jerkâ˘] yes
[jerkâ˘] 8pm by that retro arcade in the mall, be there or be square
[jerkâ˘] since you left me rudely like that, this is the only way i can talk to you
[jerkâ˘] in case ur impatient arse was wonderingÂ
You scoured over the messages once, then twice, reading them over and over, trying to dissect the intentions of the boy behind the screen. After rereading for the sixth time, you set your phone down and put your hands to your cheeks.Â
He wants to see me again. He wants to see me again. Your heart fluttered at the thought, and the grin on your face was stupidly wide. No matter how hard you tried, you just couldnât get your emotions under control.Â
It was totally irrational, completely senselessâhow could you fall in love with a jerk youâd despised all through elementary school?Â
To be honest, you didnât really care.Â
â¤
âThere you are! First things first, whyâd you go ahead and ditch me without saying a word?! Donât you know how fragile my delicate heart is?!â Upon your arrival, Felix assaulted you with a barrage of words.Â
âSorry about thatâŚâ you muttered, looking down. It hadnât occurred to you that your flee might have rubbed him the wrong way.Â
âGeez.â There was a tap on the top of your headâ and now your hair was all messed up. âYou had me worried there⌠next time, you have to tell me if somethingâs wrong! What was I supposed to think when you just ran off without a word?! You canât just leave like that. Got it?!âÂ
âYeah, yeah. I got it, mom. So do you wanna go to the arcade?âÂ
âHey! Who do you think youâre calling mom?!âÂ
You snickered, and ran off into the arcade room, with him running close behind you.
The boy chasing you was, by fundamental nature, a jerk. From the moment he was born, now, and forever. However, Felix Lee was an embarrassingly and endearingly caring jerk, but the only one that you would care to spend all your days with.

iâm already in love with classmate rivalry au that sounds amazing
the crux of this au is Â
Ahsoka sharing a biscuit to the desert boy sitting alone in the canteen, which next day, an oblivious 9-year-old Ani landed in her class and high-achiever âSoka gives the cutest jealous pout while she gets to unwind together with the genuinely warm boy thatâs pretending heâs handling the collapse of his old life better
andÂ
... [itâs] funnier when I combine it with the other circulating headcanon: Anakin regularly going to Ilum with the younglings because he loses his lightsaber so frequently. Now what wouldnât I give to put Anakin in a fake name like a blueberry said heâs Azmorigan and Ahsoka just young and wild enough (like 5 maybe, and Anakinâs in his weird goatee puberty phase) to believe/forget she first met and is taught âfuckâ (among a moral and others because Dadnakin) by this man thatâll continue to annoy the fuck out of her for the rest of her life?Â
but besides specific scenes Iâm still fuzzy where I want to take the direction of their relationship. Do I go full AU to build and break them? or do I do the math to have them only cross paths a few times across key occasions?
AU idea: Teen John tells his parents heâs going to a movie with friends, but in reality heâs driving two towns over and going to Love, Simon alone. Itâs a movie about a gay closeted kid in high school. Classmate teen Sherlock is convinced heâs the only gay kid in his high school, and although heâs out to himself, heâs not out to his classmates because relationships are dull.
Two classmates watch the movie alone. They laugh and cry (well Sherlock doesnât cry because feelings are boring) and when they exist the theatre they see one another. They know each other. Maybe not well, but they certainly recognize each other from home room chem. And suddenly they know the othersâ secret.
