#16 – Chris S
As much as Chris seemed like a sweetheart, he was the right choice for first eliminee. This shot just proves he didn’t have what it takes. His face is his one main asset, but that has been ruined by a blank expression. He tried to go hard, but came up vacant. Then we have the fact his height is pretty damn apparent. I get that he happened to get the two tallest guys, but even if they weren’t there, Renee would tower over him anyways. It was better to cut him now, rather than drag him through the competition.

For the record, I don’t think that Chris was necessarily the weakest model in Cycle 20, but since he didn’t have a full portfolio and his one and only photo was bad I have to put him in the bottom spot. That being said I don’t think he could’ve lasted too much longer, even with his potential. I wanted him to go far since he had a fantastic face, but his lack of height was a massive problem. It’s a shame because Chris was one of my early favorites, and based on what I saw of his personality I think he would’ve been a fun addition to the cast.

This is a travesty. Chris had an insurmountable challenge being grouped with the tallest guys in the cast, but he did nothing to help his case by popping out his leg and slouching slightly forward. He’s also drowning in the clothes and looks super uncomfortable. HIs facial expression is way too soft and blank for the hip-hop concept. Chris had one of my favorite looks, but there was no saving him after this.

There was no real option here; every other model has at least some reason to push them up the rankings, but with Chris only being around for one week it is hard to justify anyone else for last place. In his short stay he seemed like an incredibly positive and energetic guy, but for me he just didn’t scream model. His height was a massive issue. Even being 5’11’’ or 5’10’’ is problematic, and pushing the boundaries, but Chris didn’t even reach that. He is essentially being written off from working in most runways as it is just too noticeable a difference from the vast majority of the models. Realistically he could still work in print, but his height will still be a hurdle to overcome. I am not sure his face is strong enough for this, as while it is a lot stronger than a lot of the other guys, it just isn’t enough.
With only two shots in his portfolio, there does seem to be a recurring theme. Both involved some requirement of masculinity that just wasn’t present. There was a femininity in both which just seemed contrary to the styling, but was more problematic in his weddings shoot. That one just borders on laughable, and Renee completely outshines him with her mediocre performance. His promo shot is nothing incredible either; it feels like he tried to go butch, but sort of failed. I think the body language too weak, but the face does have some potential.
Coming out of this cycle I was expecting very little of Chris: there may be some small niche there for him, but nothing particularly big or mainstream. Of the two initial eliminations, this was definitely the one that made a lot more sense. It was probably better to cut him this early rather than force him to do all the photoshoots, as I doubt we would have seen much progression from him.
#10 – Renee and Chris S’s Wedding Shot
This cycle had an alright set of photoshoots, but this was easily the worst. Having the theme be weddings could have been alright if the shoots hadn’t been so trashy. This was easily the worst shot. Renee and Chris just get lost because of all the extras, and when I do look at them they aren’t great. Chris looks like a woman trying to play a man, and unconvincingly at that, while Renee looks the complete opposite of her assigned role. Chris S definitely deserved to go home for this.
