I talk too much about Christmas special and how much I hate it but another Christmas-themed episode that I really love was Chris Master. Look how cute these two are! Chat was so adorable here and it was a fun episode.
Miraculous Sweet-ember (Sept. 27th)
September 27th: Chris Master, The Puppeteer 2, & Stormy Weather 2
Chris Master is the non musical, Christmas orientated episode in the series. Marinette is babysitting Chris (known as Noël in the French version) who is Nino’s younger brother. He’s a tough kid to babysit since at the age where he believes he is no longer a child and should be able to do more ‘big kid’ things. His attention is quickly grabbed by the giant chest in Marinette’s room which turns out to be full of Adrien birthday gifts for the next 35 birthdays. Classic over the top Marinette. Chris’ attention is peaked and he won’t let it go so Marinette comes up with a lie to prevent him from finding out the true contents in the chest.
She pretends to be one of Santa’s elves keeping watch over children’s gifts. Chris isn’t satisfied with at first with the answer and questions her more until he’s no longer doubting her story. The story she made up was pretty cute and I loved the way she told it to Chris. Her whole interaction with Chris while babysitting was fun to see as well. He was kinda a handful so it was interesting to see how she could work around it. Also how sweet was it for Marinette to babysit Nino’s brother just so he could go to the movies with Alya. What a wonderful friend.
The Puppeteer 2 had the notorious statue scene between Adrien and Marinette. And...I LOVE THE STATUE SCENE. ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE RESULT FROM IT. We know and understand Marinette because we see all the time how much she loves Adrien. Adrien however, is not exposed to that side of Marinette...in fact, he isn’t even fully clear on if she likes him enough as a friend. Marinette can be a confusing person for Adrien to understand. We know her ramblings and unusual behavior around him is a result of her huge crush on him.
But to Adrien, a boy who started off on the wrong foot with Marinette and is new to making friends is unsure what to make of her feelings. He confesses to Nino that he wants Marinette to be close to him and see him as a good friend just like he sees her as one. He admires Marinette for all the good deeds she does for everyone and wants to be there for her just as she is there for everyone else. Marinette can’t help but be nervous around Adrien because she gets too in her head. She doesn’t mean to come off as standoffish and weird around him but it is interrupted that way.
When Nino and Alya leave the group with Manon Marinette literally charges at the door shouting not to leave her alone with Adrien. This causes him to believe Marinette is mad at him. She denies it which makes him relieved however, after more rambling she ends up saying he is not a good friend to her. This leads Adrien to ask her ‘what is he to her?’ So she bolts on out of there leaving a sad and confused boy whose hand is stuck in a molder. Plagg immediately tries to cheer him up by joking around with him and possessing a doll head. He is so sure he did something to mess up his friendship with Marinette by accident and admits to Plagg that he is clueless about these things. Adrien sets off to make it up to her. Since Plagg’s humor cheers him up he thought maybe he could make Marinette feel better that way as well. Hence pretending to be a statue.
Cue Marinette embarrassing herself in front of Adrien for a minute. Marinette is extremely upset by this but it leads to an important conversation. The first attempt was Marinette convincing him she was only joking and knew he was pretending. She only faked those feelings for a statue and not a human being. Adrien presses on, determined to understand how Marinette actually feels about him by again asking her how she feels about him. Of course, they get interrupted by living wax figures. When the time came again where the two of them were alone they both started opening up. They both apologized for their parts in the situation. Neither put the blame onto each other, no one pointed fingers, no one laughed at the other's expense. It was a healthy conversation between two people that went through a giant misunderstanding. Adrien knew he shouldn’t have pretended to be a statue and Marinette felt bad that she made him believe she was mad with him.
Seeing a relationship go through misunderstanding and openly communicating about it is extremely important. The road isn’t always smooth but what matters most is how you handle it afterward. No one was blamed more than the other, no one was ridiculed for their actions. It was an awkward and embarrassing situation but it did not ruin their friendship. In fact, it made it stronger. Going through rough patches and overcoming them together strengthens relationships. Both were willing to come together and be honest. Both wanted to correct the situation. I loved how the statue scene gave Adrienette the opportunity to discuss their feelings more openly.
Stormy Weather 2 may have been a clipshow episode but the last two minutes revealed something important. Marinette went to Adrien’s house to drop off the lessons he missed from class. This time she wanted to make sure that Adrien knew that his friend Marinette delivered the lessons. Even though Natalie agreed she would let him know she decided to attach a cute little note signed with ‘love your friend Marinette’. Adrien still has the mysterious unsigned valentines day card that he received and noticed that Marinette’s handwriting actually similar to the one on the card. Being a romantic, he had hopes that it was from Ladybug.
Although he wasn’t technically wrong with that assumption the card was meant to come from Marinette. With the possible evidence right in front of him that Marinette is the more likely of the two to give him the card he shuts down the idea. Adrien is very good a piecing the picture together when presented with small clues. But when he feels like things can be easily disproven he drops the hunch. The fact that Adrien considered Marinette to be the one who wrote the card was a big moment. He was so close to knowing Marinette’s true feelings for him and once he does learn I cannot wait to see what he does.

What did Nino do???
Never thought I'd see Santa scolding a famous ice skater, a toy dog and a super-powered furry...
