Nimmie deserves more love and not just because of her relationship with Nick. Once the whole story of Baum's Oz is taken in full, she is one of the important players in the story of the witches and even the reason the East Witch is where she is when Dorothy's house falls, which starts the whole story.
Honestly if it wasn't for her the story of Oz would not have gone the way it did and most likely not as well for Dorothy.
She was a favorite slave of the East Witch.
To the point she was offended at any of Nimmie's romantic interests, literally having them chopped up and slowly turned to tin to get rid of them.
After her second one the East Witch goes out to make a spell to change her appearance, so upset and wanting to keep Nimmie as her slave she was. This was why she was out during the storm, this is why she was there when Dorothy's house fell on her.
Proceed to, Nimmie is suddenly freed. Probably quite traumatized and abandoned by her suitors she goes to her family.
Soon learns Nick, who promised to marry her, is now King of The Winkies and it becomes very clear is not coming back for her.
At some point she meets and marries Chopfyt, a Frankenstein type creature literally made out of the meat remains of her exes.
From the witch, she stole magic from her. She seems to be capable of being a witch, is technically a low level one.
She casts a spell of solid air around her farm.
And remains hidden away from everyone on her farm with her husband.
Nimmie is a very important character in the story of all of Oz, and an interesting one, too.

I just realized I never posted my rant about the body horror that is Nick Chopper.

So from the first book, we know that Nick Chopper was once a normal man who was chopper to pieces Ship-of-Theseus style because a a witch cursed his ax. Right? Right.
WHY'D YOU MAKE HIM HAVE TO CARRY EACH OF HIS SEVERED LIMBS TO THE TINSMITH??? You KNOW there was a point there he was carrying his severed head in the forest while he was on his way there. I wanted a fairy tale, Baum. Why you giving me body horror?
And then why'd you do it again with a soldier? Was one disembodied, still completely conscious man not enough for you?
Because then also. Where did Langwidere get all those heads Baum? Huh? Where'd she get'em? Are there just a bunch of headless women roaming around Oz because you couldn't just let people die in your fairyland? No fate worse than death my ass.

So tinsmith now has most of 2 severed bodies. Still completely functional body parts because nothing can die. Just threw them in a barrel because thats just what you do with severed limbs. At least until he got a hold of Victor Frankenstein's journals without the crucial back half of "fuck around and find out" because he decides to make to make a man out of the two conveniently dismembered bodies. Because that just screams "fun and whimsy" right?
