The X-Files S5E10: Chinga
I’ve been thinking about the episode‘Chinga’ a lot.
Specifically how well Stephan King understands Scully as a character.
Level headed and personable. A person that when trying to ‘live a normal life’ still gets drawn into work and despite saying otherwise wants to be there and is interested in the work.
The scene where Scully list off supernatural possibilities to Mulder very deadpan and frank is often only regarded as a mrs moment but what it actually is even when Mulder isn’t there she still pays attention. She knows the content of their work and does look and consider non conventional options. Not because of Mulder but because she is a scientist and covers all possibilities.
She is also never a damsel, unlike almost all her other Scully focused episodes. Scully isn’t in peril, she is an agent and investor and a badass. Once she gets a sense of what’s going on she has no fucking problem believing the doll is responsible and essentially blows it up.
All this to say I wish the show wrote Scully closer to Stephan Kings interpretation more. It is the most accurate representation of how I view her character personally.
As well as incredibly flattering portrayal of her character.
So thanks Stephan! You a real one for that!
