Things to know: I like and follow from @excuse-me-thanks. I go by Thanks (she/her). I started this back in 2024 to catalog my obsessive first watch of The X-Files. That content is still here, most of it tagged #txf. There may still be some Filesposting here and there. But right now I’m deeeeeeeeeep into Star Trek: The Next Generation.

This account exists mostly to keep my main from being taken over when I know I’m going to be spending a lot of time with a series. For example, my thoughts on The Bear? They’re on main. And my thoughts on something like M*A*S*H, which I have already seen a thousand times, are on main. But if I get really into Buffy The Vampire Slayer for the first time, for example, that watch will probably go here.

Along with the usual metas, art reblogs, memes, headcanons, etc., I typically post my thoughts at the end of a season along with a few highs and lows. I’m already three seasons into TNG, so stay tuned for those retrospectives. I also plan to pick up DS9 concurrently with TNG. Then Voyager, etc. I have seen all of TOS, but so far the only movies I have seen are AOS. Please don’t come for me lmao…

Fewer styrofoam rocks, more interesting interactions between people. Some serious clunkers here as well, but much more self aware than season one. It’s worth noting that this is the season of Pulaski. While I think I would have been disappointed had she been our CMO for the duration, I also think that the ways in which she is different from Beverly are interesting for as long as she’s around. Whoopi Goldberg joins the cast, and we wonder how we ever got along without her and Ten Forward. Oh, and Riker’s facial hair finally came in.

Also, was someone going to tell me Mick Fleetwood is a FISH ALIEN in this season, or was I going to have to read that on Wikipedia for myself?

Faves:

The Measure of a Man: Listen, any and all Data eps are going on this list. Show me how loved that android is! The courtroom scene is so tense, and we feel all of it in part because Data feels none of it.

Peak Performance: This episode is? So tender? Riker, Wes, Geordi, and Worf are clearly having so much fun getting ready to kick Picard’s ass. But this episode also gives us the important “it is possible to commit no errors and still lose” moment, as well as “I busted him up!” I thought about this one for such a long time after watching.

The Royale: I think that what I like about this ep is the very thing that makes it a poor showing of Star Trek writing: It’s just fun. Like, the stakes could not be lower. It’s downright silly. And I’ve rewatched it already for this reason. Baby needs a new pair of shoes.

Least Faves:

Shades of Gray: Do I even have to say it? Strike or no strike, this is some of the worst television I have ever had the displeasure of consuming.

Up the Long Ladder: Misogynistic and stereotypical and all around a less than fun time. Also just… kinda sucks to watch?

Season 1:

We all know season one is where any serial like this is looking for its identity. And I don’t think TNG found it here. Lots of TOS vibes, and while that’s not necessarily bad, it doesn’t represent the full potential of the show. Looking back, I missed out on a lot of details in this season. In fact, the only memory I have of “Angel One” is Geordi on the bridge. While there are some serious clunkers here, I can’t be too hard on the season that brought us the Enterprise D and her crew.

My faves:

The Naked Now: Is it a direct rip-off of The Naked Time? Sure. Do I GAF? No. We’ve just met these people and now we get to see them DRUNK? Yes please!

Datalore: Not only is this a fucking banger in the plot and character departments, but it is when we begin to unlock the true power of Brent Spiner…

Conspiracy: Genuinely just a little action movie. The moment when Riker appears in the doorway absolutely got me the way it was intended to.

My least faves:

Code of Honor: Racist and misogynistic in the same fuuuucking episode? THE FOURTH ONE NO LESS???

11001001: Honestly this just gave me the ick.
