YOU THINK IT'S OPEN, BUT IT'S CLOSED! They look so similar, so how do you tell them apart!? (”˚☐˚)/

Let's take a closer look! Both kanji use the same gate radical 門 But in 開 (open) you see 井, while in 閉 (close) you see 才!

井 have a hole in the middle, 才 have no hole So there you go! 開 = open 閉 = close

Now you can save yourself from doing the awkward "rattling a locked door while the staff stares at you" (≖⩊≖)

Walking on a freezing night, you head for a vending machine. You accidentally hit the blue button instead of the red one and end up with a frozen, metal can of Boss Coffee.

You take a sip, wince at the chill, and groan to your friend, 「うわぁ, 寒い！」 (Uwaa, samui!)

Your friend laughs and corrects you: 「あ、冷たいね」 (A, tsumetai ne).

But samui and tsumetai both means cold in Japanese language! So what's the difference ? 

寒い (samui) = Weather / Vibe For when your whole body feels the chill. Like snowy days, drafty rooms, or cranking the AC.

冷たい (tsumetai) = Touch / Objects. For specific things you feel or taste. Like Ice cubes, iced coffee, cold hands, or a cold heart. Btw, samui is not just about the weather!

Tell a terrible joke and get total silence? Your friend will cringe and go, 「寒っ！」 (Samu!).
