i feel like don’t appreciate how much of a triumph of game design shitposting Campaign for North Africa is. It’s not only the grandfather of projects like The UNO Amalgam Chemicards, 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel, EXTREME Monopoly, but surpasses them on sheer scale and effort.
I feel like people forget that Campaign for North Africa was in fact a work of satire, and not an earnest attempt to capture the complexities of warfare. Which makes its existence make more and less sense at the same time. Because like. I cannot stress this enough this game is from 1978?!? And is a genuinely staggering amount of rules and system design? Like. imagine sitting down in 1978, pre internet, and going “hmmm today I will commit to spending the next several months making the Evil Torture Wargame” and then getting it published. It’s deranged

Chemicards - Professor Arma Geddon (Design Sketches)
These drawings are in roughly reverse chronological order, so the first pic is my latest iteration of the design.
So, Arma is a design I really struggled with at the start. She was always supposed to be "sexy," but I couldn't quite hit on anything that worked for me. Since she's a professor, I still wanted her to have formal/professional clothing, but realistically, that necessitates toning down some of her sexuality. So she's been kinda frumpy throughout most of my sketches for her.
But eventually I said, "To hell with all that, this bitch NEEDS to serve cunt." And just went forward fom there. Did I do it? Is she sufficiently cunty now? I'm not sure, but it's better than what I had before~
Oh, and a special note for almost all of the upcoming Chemicards posts: A lot of them have these "alternate palette" sheets. It actually started with the Alexes, but I made a game where I recolor the sketches/lineart I've made for some of the characters, and I have the server guess who they're supposed to be. If they get them all before giving up, I usually reward them with a picture of food that I have saved to my computer. I think they lost the first round with Arma, but they did win the second mini-round.
Feel free to play for yourself too, but I won't give any prizes for it~ I'll make a post with all the answer keys eventually if you want to check your answers later~

I feel too lazy to finish anything lately. These are all really old, but I was holding onto them because I've been feeling a little self-conscious about posting my "bad" art. But whatevs~ I've always been pretty open about how much I actually suck. I dunno why that should change now.

1-3) Redrawing my author avatar a bit. I dunno how many avatars I'm gonna make until I'm finally satisfied, but I liked the idea of turning my "brain worms" into its own character. It's supposed to represent my various unnamed mental illnesses, so I imagine the face color changes depending on which one it represents at the time. Its main modes are: mania, depression, and obsession~
It's supposed to be kinda gummy worm-esque. I dunno, I don't love any of these ideas yet, but if I do draw myself, this is probably gonna be the new "usual" hairstyle I go to. I've been wearing a lot of headbands lately~
I also think this is the first time I've drawn myself with my cane~ I've had it for a while, but I don't really use it home, so there really isn't a need to include it most of the time~
2-4) Kun3h0 Sketches. I randomly decided to try making Kun3h0 a new outfit from scratch. It's still rough so I dunno if it works yet. I do like the new hairstyle though - it's sort of a combination of the puffs and the braids, turning into what I can only call "cotton candy drills." Also experimenting with giving her a tail, but I don't know what purpose it really serves~
5) I don't think D. Zaster counts as an "OC", but I don't have enough Chemicards sketches to put them in their own post~
Actually, I have a lot of backlog that y'all haven't seen, but I posted them to the discord a while back before I jumped ship (well, a temporary leave until there are some major updates with the characters), and it feels weird uploading them this late now.
It's actually been so long since I've drawn the Chemicards fellas that I can't remember what they look like from memory anymore. So I took a crack at D. Zaster again, to see where I would take him if I was less "faithful" to the original concepts. I think I've said this before, but since he's the one we have the most information about, I feel a little weird "re"designing him, but as I drift further and further from the source material, I feel more comfortable adding more of my personal quirks to him, regardless if they're canon or not.
As a result, he's gotten a little more mangled XP. Aside from having a prosthetic robot arm, I don't think D. Zaster actually has any obvious scars, but I think it just suits him to be a little beat-up all the time from all the danger he's around. Like yeah, he probably has some kind of instant healing thingamajig, but that erases so much potential visual storytelling with him. >_<;
I don't know if he's supposed to be like this, but one of my defining traits for him is his recklessness, and you don't really get that if he's too put together~
Turbo Nerd (Sketch): Since I'm trying to overhaul him, I didn't want to finish his yet.
Zaster without goggles. I did go through the trouble of drawing his eyes under the goggles, but I don't like how he's looking at me, so I didn't post it to the server XP.
GAB's Alex Palette. So, I don't love using orange/white for the Alexes outfit, but those are the canon colors, so I try to work around them. If/when I take my Alexes for my own work, this is probably closer to the color scheme I would use.
I'll also post this by itself. I was really running with this for a bit~
Physically, I think they're really compatible because Elle's toxic body would kill most people if they're around her too much, but Arma, being a cyborg, could probably withstand the toxins for longer than most people (or just repair herself if she does suffer damage).
But I don't think they could have a long-lasting partnership because Elle REALLY wants kids, and I have reason to believe that Arma just doesn't. Still, friends with benefits are still friends at the end of the day <3
