James had no idea how they pulled it off, but they had. McGonagall had come in and told the entire house they were not to leave the common room until the morning. Sheād cornered James, Sirius, Peter and Remus. Regulus was safely hidden in Jamesās bed. And began questioning them, but when Lily, Mary and Marlene came to their aid, swearing theyād been with them all evening, so whatever was going on in the castle had nothing to do with them. Sheād left.
By the morning, it was determined that there was no way four seventeen-year-old boys could have caused so much trouble all on their own, but with no proof that it was the Marauders and no clues as to who else could possibly have been involved, the subject was dropped for now. For the rest of the week, shrieks and screams could be heard across the castle at random intervals as one of the little ducks came out of hiding and turned into a goose. He watched Madam Hooch run across the grounds as one of the geese charged after her. A few of the memos had given the teachers the slip as well. Zooming in through ajar doors or open windows and covering classes in multicoloured inks before zooming out again. It was the gift that kept on giving. But the most important part of their prank was what happened in the dungeons.Ā
It had taken the three boys a while to figure out what was happening. They had all panicked, and the Devilās snare had wrapped around them. Its tentacle-like vines squeezed tighter and tighter around its prey. Mucliber had nearly died because heād panicked so much, and Snape and Wilkes were struggling with their own vines. Eventually, Wilkes had set fire to their dorm room, nearly burning them alive. The Devilās Snare was gone, and so were everyone's eyebrows and most of their hair.Ā
āLooking good, Snivelus!ā Sirius crowed across the great hall when Snape walked in with a totally bald head. Snape glanced up at the teachers' table, who all had their eyes on him, so he had to settle for a grimace at the group of Gryffindors hollering their heads off with laughter. Their joy was short-lived as Remus gasped and clutched his thigh. It was a full moon tonight, and Moony was feeling restless.Ā
