I just joined this platform "UnVale" and I'm a bit concerned.
I had heard of unvale through a YouTube sponsorship, which was immediately a red flag to me, but my friend wanted me to give it a try because they liked it, so I've been on it for the past few days. The platform claims to be anti-nft and anti-ai, which by itself is great because independent artists struggle with those things a lot. Here are screenshots from their content guidelines:
I've noticed that the website is very similar to toybox, but you can get on it without an invite.
Here's what their purpose was for creating the site:
This is all very lovely, especially because artists do struggle a lot with all of those things.
But when I was reading through what was or wasn't able to post on the site, I came across this:
This means that some of my art, parts of my characters and creations are not allowed on the site.
I could not post the following:
My persona (Because he wears revealing clothing in his demon au, I draw him without his shirt to celebrate being trans, and he curses excessively)
All of my character Raelyn's reference sheet. (Because I have a version of them without his clothes for skin reference)
Any kind of abuse storyline with many of my characters
Fight scenes
Vent art
And more I can't think of right now.
I understand that the platform is supposed to be wholesome and welcoming, but it's limiting what kinds of art is acceptable or not, which is a problem to me. It makes it so characters who are minors, or minors, cannot express themselves and show people their creations.
I'm frustrated with this and I'm not going to be on the site any longer.
