Never Mind the Bollocks, This One's About the Robot
Does...does Bonney just make everything a named attack? You can guess from the title what we'll be focusing on the most here from Chapter 1092. I could start by pointing out a lot of things as this quiet thread weaves ever more and more into the foreground. Seeing more of a known scene through Akainu/Bonney. Kizaru and his forlorn attitude towards duty demanding the elimination of those he has a bond with. Here's one that'll waggle your eyes, isn't Kuma right now quite reminiscent of Cindry?
At this point, we've seen enough to know at least one thing is true. One of One Piece's little tricks is every arc has a thread that's more about setting up the next. Okiku is Wano's. You know what I say; the conspicuous absence from the Ryokugyu fight and ending on Rakugo Rocky's unreliable narration after the type of story we told with her opens the door to more than that. But forget about that...Robonosuke.
Chapter 1092 spoiler first thought I had at the end
Bonney, Bonney, Bonney...BONNEY!!! Your role in this feels like it was planned. Yesterday was about fun with Robonosuke. It's fun to talk about the potential off-ramps that come up. Today is taking stock on Bonney, someone we've always figured was a potential reason this thread of Wano was building too. Now, obviously I'd add you still gotta explain Sento/Stussy and how often they're paired as well as Kizaru doubling down with the maudlin demeanor over what he has to do here. But Bonney is still super interesting in her own right.
We haven't really given this part its due. The scene with Sabaody and Zoro. Quick thinking to rein him in, acting to smooth it over, and really dressing him down after. In hindsight this is a pretty big deal. I think a lot about this "Distorted Future" idea she introduced. Oh, and I messed up yesterday. "Age Skewer," Kizaru was dodging the thing where she knocked Vegapunk's age jewels out. Here's the thing...an author like Oda is smart enough to know you don't play with time lightly. But now I'm starting to see this was smartly set up. Kuma and Cindry, Bonney & Izo dipping into similar territory in Sabaody/Marineford, Kiku's picking up playing with time. And now come to think of it, we're doing the "after the fact" bit with Bonney and the night in the lab.
Kiku's shtick, we know some kind of change of heart happened but haven't fleshed it out. And you know, if you wanna talk theories we don't know what Bonney's fruit is. Inheriting those powers is a theme we've toyed with. Did we learn the full extent of Toki's power? I don't know how I feel about it, but I can see the idea sending people forward or her seeming ability to predict the future was the Awakening. Whatever this is about, it's so fun to watch come together. This is a deep, important thread that wound together under people's noses for over a decade.
Something so satisfying about seeing grab Kizaru like that.
