#chapter 1029

So, Hawkins might have thought he’d learnt through Law to not use subordinates (or first mate and nearest and dearest) to ensnare a captain, so he used a captain (Kid) to try and ensnare a subordinate (or first mate and nearest and dearest)—Killer. And to get in the way of his opponents of course.

In the original scenario, Captain (Law) ends up bloodied through Hawkins’ torture in Law’s efforts to protect his nearest and dearest (Penguin, Shachi, Bepo). He needs to remain passive until he can make his move. 

And his nearest and dearest initially end up bloodied through Hawkins’ power (and the captain’s desire to protect them). 

In the second case, nearest and dearest (Killer) ends up bloodied through Hawkins’ physical attacks and Captain (Kid) ends up bloodied through Hawkins’ power. Killer also takes the beatings from Hawkins in an effort to protect Kid and waits to make his move when he can.

In either case, Captain and the next most trusted end up beaten (but not defeated).

Both Law and Killer bank on the one thing, and that is that Hawkins

so many things happened to let's just jump right into it

This was mostly a Killer-Hawkins centric chapter showing us the conclusion of their fight (finally!) but it starts off right after the end to last chapter, with Sanji breaking Queen's sword!! First of all, can we talk about Chopper calling Sanji 'my boy'??? why is he so cute ;;

Second of all...

look at his face. he looks so scared, and worried because he doesn't want to become like the rest of his 'brothers' - "if this keeps up, am i going to lose my emotions?' is the first thing he worries about. aside from my heart breaking for him, it just shows a lot that sanji's first reaction is to worry about his emotions, without caring at all about gaining 'new, amazing powers'. i have faith in oda not to make us hate him by doing anything to sanji who's the kindest soul ever, we have hopes :)

AND THEN! we move on to kidd, law and big mom's fight - or more like big mom just landing attack after attack, not really a fight.

kidd's head start hurting with a "headache" but we see hawkins banging his head against the wall because he's a coward who can't fight fairly against killer because he knows he'll get one-shotted :)

killer is trying to bargain with hawkins, and cue me loving killer even more. loyalty and devotion to your captain has always been my favorite trait (fave character is zoro you guys see the patterns) and killer being willing to sacrifice his life for kidd is just-

killer proceeds to insinuate that hawkins is just being petty because he gave up easily and submitted to kaido, and now he's regretting it (which is true hawkins stop being a jealous baby)

and then one of the best scenes in this chapter, and just a scene i can¨t wait for to get animated

Killer asks Hawkins: what happens if you get damage, that has nowhere else to go?

which is just??? what do you mean killer??? BUT THEN

HE CUTS HAWKINS ARM OFF (look at that art tho) BECAUSE, AND I QUOTE

THIS WAS JUST SO UNEXPECTED???? WHY DID I NOT THINK OF THIS???

and then killer proceeds to finish off hawkins (because like i said, hawkins used dirty moves because killer would just one-shot him)

with an amzing move, the sonic blade!!

WHICH LOOKS AMAZING?? such a cool shot, and an amazing chapter for killer and killer stans

also! during the fight Hawkins picks out a card - the tower, which is the title of this chapter. In tarot readings the tower represents "Sudden change, upheaval, chaos, revelation, awakening"

which oda explains is "an upheaval of the established order..., indicates the opening of a new path"

killer finally defeating hawkins makes it so that kidd can go all out in his battle with big mom, and potentially kidd and law would defeat her (i didn't think this before this chapter, but with this i really hope they do defeat her) and also

the established order might representant the two yonkos, big mom and kaido, and the upheaval is going to be the defeat of the two yonkos, which opens up a new path - the new era with the worst generation on the top!

Queen is obsessed with seeing that raid suit, maybe it's not Sanji he wants to see in it, he does talk an awful lot about Judge, and his scientific abilities, a lil bit too much *wink wink*

I got my wish and the Big Mom fight is being shown! "You got a migraine?" I can confirm it feels like that, to the point of incapacitating you during a fight, always bring a friend/boyfriend/girlfriend/relative to one, someone you can trust to finish the fight and then take you home under the cover of darkness, meaning they will suffocate you with a sweatshirt, this sounds oddly specific.

Poor Law, he's now a BBQ chicken. And I died with Big Mom doing the spin, I need the animation, n e e d.

Poor Kid, it's his time to shine like a bride on her wedding day, and then her mother in law comes in a haute couture Oscar de La Renta black dress and the ex appears in like Zac Posen and Kid is at the altar being like wut. This isn't even a valid example, this example is about being outshined, Kid is dying ¯\_(⊙_ʖ⊙)_/¯

Killer, you're doing amazing sweetie. Kid's crew is so goth and punk I fucking love it. Killer and Zoro are both the same sacrificial idiots. Hawkins is salty because he lost his dreams and became a sourpuss, if Kid was okay he would be giving a good fight to Big Mom along Law OkAy wannabe straw boy.

YES KILLER, DESTROY HIS ASS ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ Hawkins is mad he's such a coward. Killer is also intelligent, like wtf go Killer. What's his stupid quality? I'm sure I'll find it endearing anyway. OHHHHHHHH HE DIDN'T HESITATE, BITCH. By Hawkins face I can tell it's his actual arm, Oda sure loves to cut off arms, maybe because as a mangaka that's one of his worst fears. Kid is like wtf is happening. I love how he looks like a lil monster.

Hawkins must have felt like a total clown. Killer is so good ( ꈨຶ ˙̫̮ ꈨຶ )

I needed a second. DAMN. I love one piece, Oda you bastard. That's what you get for playing tarot during a fight you silly. Law must really think Kid had a migraine and that it passed now. The "go for it, partner" ༼;´༎ຶ ۝ ༎ຶ༽ Also, can we talk about how strong Killer is, he's a member of the worst generation so he can be as strong as captains who also belong to it, but he was injured, Hawkins had no damage except the lost arm. Once Killer knew Kid was out of danger, he finished Hawkins in like two strikes, one for the straw thingy and one for him, that was beautiful.

Idk if this is a hot take or not but I think the altered biology that Sanji has going on in the recent chapters are way more interesting than the raid suit.

The genes are involuntary for one, and there is something there to explore with abusive families and a fear to become like them.
