I like the backstory about this character. He reminds me of Chalothon in the Sign. I think there is a parallel to make between the two stories. Of course, when there is reincarnation, you usually find the same tropes.
In fact, the story is similar when it comes to these two characters. In the past, Yod was in love with Khemmika, but she was in love with his brother and didn't want to be with him. Yod was jealous of his brother Wat. In the Sign, Chalothon never accepted that Wansarut didn't love him and preferred to be with Phaya the Garuda. He was also jealous of their relationship.
Khemmika was eventually reborn as Khemjira and in the Sign, Wasarut is reborn as Tharn. They don't have memories of their previous incarnation and both of them were reborn as man in the present time. They share some physical traits with their previous incarnations, but they are different. Their personality are the same. They usually keep the same qualities and sometimes flaws (still remains to be seen in Khemjira).
Their lover are also reincarnated with the same appearance into someone who doesn't really remember their previous incarnations. Granted, I'm not sure Peem doesn't have a few memories. I believe he is the same as Phaya in The Sign. He probably has some memories he can access, but they remain confusing and in this life Peem wants to truly keep protecting the village. So, he may dismiss these memories as they can be a distraction to his goal. Love may not be possible for him, especially with someone who is cursed. That's probably the difference with Phaya who was dreaming of Wasarut all the time and trying to know who she was. He was actively trying to find her.
On the opposite, the rejected man (Yof or Chalothon) is still present and hasn't really change in looks. In addition, they are both determined to be with the reincarnation of the one they love. They always "hover over" them. Yod is haunting Khem, while Chalothon found a way to be always present in Tharn's life. They even think the main character should be with them even though in the past they were rejected by them. They are aware of their love rival being around and they always quarrels with them to oppose the reunion of the fates lovers.
Their quest is in vain because the one they love (or the one they are obsessed with) will never choose them. The way they are pursuing them is wrong and they seem to not accept any refusal. Instead, they think that if they keep pestering them, they will eventually give in and stay with them.
There are some differences between Yod and Chalothon. For ewample, Yod isn't (yet) the main villain who is working against Khem. Chalothon was the true villain in Tharn's story as he made sure the people he loved would die so he would remain alone. In a way, Chalothon is the same as Yod, but also the same as the evil spirit lady (can't remember her name!). He tried hard to win the heart of Tharn, but he also "cursed" his life (in a way) which made Tharn believes he didn't deserve love. In Khemjira, Yod is helping Khem and protecting him from the actions of the evil spirit lady. However, I'm not sure he is truly helping him with the curse. Does he even have this power?
I wonder if there will be more parallels between the two series.
