meta + regrets? things she wishes she had or hadn't said or done? does she dwell on her regrets? does she push them down instead? would she change any of them if given a chance?
@cerceia || send me stuff to meta || always accepting
Hello! First of all, thank you for this submission, I absolutely loved to explore this ... Again this may get long so apologies . letâs start with some regrets though.
- LADY !!!! that whole debacle is a huge regret and was one of the first warning signs of the true nature of the Prince. But it was something really traumatizing to witness, yâknow, and part of her mind sort of reinvented the whole scenario to cope with a truth she was unwilling to accept . . . but still, that loss cut really fucking deep, felt like she lost a HUGE part of herself that day which sheâd have to work to find again . ( I need to do a meta on Sansa and the North one day oh man )- going to Cersei about Ned -- but really just trusting Cersei and Joffrey in general . duh . - Her treatment of Arya when they were younger - Iâve addressed this a bit in my sansa and arya meta. But really, itâs such a sister thing to be really hurtful ( my sister and I did it to each other so much when younger, it was super awful and neither of us know why we acted this way but deeply regretted it, itâs part of growing up, but treating Arya that way and a possibility of her being DEAD , she wishes she had been more open to her, appreciated all her family really ) .- Being so excited to leave Winterfell - it was her home and she didnât realize how important that was until it was too late .- Allowing herself to fall for the kindness of the Tyrells ( though this is more of one built upon sadness, because really got attached and opened up after everything & felt used and like it was only for her title )Â
As for how she copes with these regrets, I think she does dwell, Sansa is very internalized as a character, she thinks on actions, thinks on what others say, is perceptive and observant, but keeps so much on her mind . Thereâs never really a lot of moments she can vocalize or express her regrets or grief, so such things really bottle up and turn about in her head. Â
It gets to point needs to be pushed down but thoughts bubble up here and there against her will. But one huge thing about her is she needs to look forward, else she will be stuck. and stuck where she is, no thanks. Thatâs where this thing about sansa having a lot of HOPE comes from, a need not to let the pain and regrets define or control her . Also , she is all about growth and learning. You canât change the past, and those mistakes are what you learn from to grow.Â
Now if she WOULD CHANGE any regrets ( corresponding to the above list ) :
- yes, she is not sure how such would be pulled off, but Sansa would do whatever to keep Lady from becoming a victim . - yes, she would be back in winterfell with her family, ned may still be alive, robb and cat may still be alive. Look, I think she wouldâve grown out of naĂŻvetĂ© without the trauma, thatâs part of growing up, and that whole show monologue though I can see as a coping mechanism for what sheâs been put through, to try and rationalize bad things happening, it didnât necessarily mean she wouldnât have grown up without it.
- YES, in that way of I do not know why I was so shitty to you but we were sisters and we both have changed and matured enough to appreciate each other, but thatâs also part of growing up, respecting differences and finding common ground .
- Canonically, yes, even though she was a little girl and while internally she has given herself flack for that, I feel like in this regard, regretting leaving Winterfell and not appreciating home sort of stands for her childhood as well. How in the books we have the below quote of how she would give anything to have that back:Â
âThey are children, Sansa thought. They are silly little girls, even Elinor. Theyâve never seen a battle, theyâve never seen a man die, they know nothing. Their dreams were full of songs and stories, the way hers had been before Joffrey cut her fathers head off. Sansa pitied them. Sansa envied them.â - ASOS
and of course thereâs that quote where when leaving Winterfell she had not realized it would be the day her song had ended.
- The Tyrells, as said above , its more of a sad regret, because of how important they were in a time of vulnerable loneliness, how easily she fell for the pretty words, she regrets she opened up mostly due to how much it hurt when she was shut out .
So yes, those are the main ones, i am terrible at transitions so super sorry if this is a hot mess !!
