you know what really breaks an octopus's heart? finding their mate in the arms and the arms and the arms and the arms of another octopus.
Worm monstrosity – a giant extinct worm
In a new study published in Scientific Reports (Earth’s oldest ‘Bobbit worm’ – gigantism in a Devonian eunicidan polychaete) by Luke A Parry of Bristol University in the UK, David M Rudkin of the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada and me (Mats E Eriksson of Lund University in Sweden), an extraordinary new species of polychaetes (that is, bristle worms – the marine relatives of earthworms and leeches)…

The Cuttlefish - The Kings of Camouflage (PBS/Nova)
The cuttlefish can change its color, pattern, shape, and texture on command to blend into their environs, communicate with other cuttlefish, and to threaten potential predators. They can also produce undulating lights to confuse their prey. These cephalopods are considered among the most intelligent invertebrates.

Monster Girl number 8- Octomaid! I was excited for this one from the get go, I love cephalopods and octopi, so mermaid octopus? Heck yes! Its fun reading about all the mischief they octopi get up to both in the wild and in captivity. For a creature not particularly social within its own species, they're so curious and frighteningly intelligent, and they really seem to enjoy figuring us out as much as we like to watch them too. This lady is doing something that octopi are documented to do both in the wild and in captivity- decorating and collecting things she likes. I read about one once that fiddled with stuff in front of its cave, putting them places, then rearranging them, until it had them just so- after which it looked pleased with itself and had a nap.
Bless you, you alien little earthlings.

Okay. Someone left a lovely comment at DA on this, but then asked if they could use it for an album cover. I'm always at a bit of loss when people say stuff like this. For a mix-tape? For a band? Should I charge them? Give me a free cd at least? I don't really consider myself an artist, more of a doodler, so I'm not quite sure how to respond.
Octopi on pedestals. Exactly where y'all's tentacle-y masters belong. (via Steampunk Original Art Print Green Octopus by BiloxiHousewife)
