Why the living fuck did his office have to be on the sixth floor was a mystery. Walking that far for no reason with an armful of books and papers and other paraphernalia so he could look like a real instructor gave Sungkyu a headache just thinking about it. Now he had to actually do it, and keep a pleasant smile on his face and let himself be interrupted by some adoring fan student every meter or so. It was like some special torture slash obstacle course for him. Considering the fact heโd had to deal with that little brat during his brilliant lecture, Sungkyu promised himself a chocolate bar now and a wino later. Surely that was more than fair.
He hummed lightly under his breath making sure to keep the sound from accidentally on purpose giving some kid a blister just to alleviate his irritation. Too many accidents could cause some pesky angel or one of those idiot human killers to come sniffing around and dealing with that was not going to happen while he was on campus. He smiled and bowed to the head of his department and moved up in line waiting for the elevator. Princes of hell did not climb stairs.ย
To distract himself, he eyed those around him and mentally tried to decide which one was the biggest sinner. Was it the sloe eyed girl posing with her long jacket and short skirt who glanced his way? Nah, she might talk the talk but he figured she was actually pretty pure. The older instructor with the cardigan and unattractive scent of tobacco and weed hanging around him? Nah Sungkyu figured that one might have a heart attack if a sin other than sloth appeared possible.
Maybe it was him? The one with a hickey on his neck and a permanent frown on his face? Sungkyu wouldnโt be surprised. He finally reached the head of the queue and stepped into the little metal box of the elevator repressing a small shudder. He didnโt really like elevators, they reminded him a bit too much of mausoleums, coffins and metal slabs.ย
He pushed the button for the sixth floor and pinned his gaze on the safety notice. Five minutes, heโd timed it, and he could be in his office with the dark chocolate still in his desk drawer. He just had to get through the time. The fella with the hickey joined him in the little metal box, choosing one floor beneath his. Sungkyu smiled politely.
And then, the elevator machinery made a crunk cronk sound and stopped. Just stopped. Sungkyuโs polite smile vanished and he poked the elevator button. Nothing. The lights went out and then the tiny red ones along the floor of the elevator came on. Not what he wanted to see.
