what happens if someone's soulmate dies young?
Lore questions like this honestly give me life on the inside.
Basically it doesn’t matter so much when someone’s soulmate dies - it’s not as though nature really gives people new soulmates or changes names after all - as much as what happens when someone’s soulmate dies.
If you happen to already have a bond to someone - less likely when you’re both younger but not impossible - the loss of that partner can strain your mental and physical health. It won’t necessarily kill you, exactly, unless you weren’t in good health already or you happen to grieve especially hard after a lost partner. But you’d definitely be more prone towards depression and sadness and a kind of bone-deep longing, I’d imagine. After all, you used to share a very close bond to someone and now that’s gone and you’re always aware there’s a hole there, you’re just more aware of it sometimes than others.
Conversely, if you don’t already have that bond established (whether because true names haven’t appeared and/or you simply haven’t made an emotional connection long or strong enough to start a bond), you might still be subject to some increased risk for depression, but to a far lesser degree. You never bonded, so you could conceivably go your entire life without ever really consciously realizing your bonded is dead, though you might get suspicious if you never really feel a pull to go anywhere to find your soulmate or if that tug just flat out disappears one day. Some people go their whole lives without finding their partner, so it’s entirely possible that you could never know.
Of course, as you might imagine, having a polybond would potentially mitigate the symptoms (since you would have the hole still but you wouldn’t have quite as large of an absence, if that makes sense) and would help stabilize. And similarly, if you sever the bond and replace it with a name of your own deciding, you could also alleviate any symptoms that might be caused, which is something that would be possible at any age. Hell, some people whose soulmates have died probably sever and bond with each other so they can have some kind of bond rather than none at all.
happy valentines . fires my cannon at you
preaching my c!puffychu/seasalt caramel agenda to the masses because they mean a lot to me
pspspsp chat. dsmp rewrite content got some flag designs for you. heh. i drafted south valley's flag a while back and drafted all the color meanings and shapes used. not a vexillology buff by any standard, obviously, but by gosh do i try.
if you can't read my handwriting, a transcript: south valley flag - v-cut to use less cloth/fly freely - [original] made from wil's scrapped canvas, sewn by niki, tubbo and jack black - determination, white - peace > used together to show the peace "shining through" and showing s. valley's dedication to it yellow - life, energy > "even after death, our light lives on" i am so pretentious but i had to. blue - liberation > blue also stands for the people. "rising" in a unified circle, sunrise motif red - revolution > also representative of courage after failure, foreshadowing the nation's reformation in act iv-v hearts used from death's [kristin's] crest, representing the three chances all mortal souls get use of all three primaries to invoke unity, potential for change
i then used my draft to make an irl recreation of the first flag, done with actual canvas scraps of mine and some watercolor markers. the blue here is deeper than it should be, and there are blatant imperfections scattered all over, representative of south valley's population as a whole. and not because i didn't plan it right. /j along this flag are three distinct stitching types i attempted to convey: tubbo's, the exaggerated catch-stitch at the top, jack's, the messy whip stitch in the center, and niki's, the secure baste/backstitch at the bottom. there are deep gashes along the left of this flag and burn marks from various fires...but only the tiny injuries were patched up. bandaid solutions. yet, the flag still survived!!
along with south valley, i also drafted a couple more that i have to revisit and made a flag system for the enderian districts as well. if you guys would be interested in hearing me yap about that or one of these flags...well my askbox. it's open. hint hint nudges you with my elbow too hard you fling away like the scarecrows in wii party /ref
in the wake of order's dissolvement, the hands of chaos moved forth.
yes there is no background because i'm a lazy little shit. anyhow these are saint llŷr of time, saint exodus of knowledge, and saint tybalt of disguise, from top to bottom. only one of them survives this story intact. i'll clue you in: it isn't the lord of cats that ran out of luck! their arrival threatened the council--each of their ranks had been crafted specific to their task, and here were three gods born from the void taking up several of the council's titles and dominions
it was only a matter of time before eternity cast them down for their insolence. but was it insolence if it was all they'd ever known?

cclingy circus of chaos au designs hehe ignore how the chains on tubbo look weird i gave up halfway through. anyways this is a valley au where the valley is. quite literally a circus! instead of whatever the fuck dream/the puppet and exodus are doing in canon l'manburg was a travelling act that got signed away by eret to an up-and-coming ringleader, dream! they got sorted from their jack-of-all-trades roles to specific skills (wilbur became a fire breather/fire staffer, jack throws knives, niki took up devil sticks/juggling, fundy, a tightrope walker, et cetera et cetera) in poor working conditions. no they can never win don't ask me
tubbo and tommy switched their cravat and bow btw! which is this au's version of their bandanas :333 i love cclingyduo they mean a lot to me
older sketch based on The Magnus Archives' Nikola Orsinov/The Stranger, involving dearest ranboo beloved and their unfortunate encounter with the puppet--that malevolent, spindly figure pulling at the loose strings of reality .
If a human is bonded to a non-human, are they born without a soulmate mark, or does an existing bond with a human get severed when they bond with an alien?
Oh many kisses for you for asking more lore questions! I love lore questions so very much.
For humans (and mutants) who are “true bonded” to a nonhuman (whether alien or Asgardians or Atlantean or Amazonian or well... we’re honestly not going to be too fussed with which cultures would qualify as long as it makes sense and isn’t humans or mutants right now since they’re both confirmed to be “normal” and not relying on rituals and the like), they’d actually still be born able to manifest a true name! Essentially the non-human would just have a specific name they’d be ritualistically putting on themselves for the true name rather than one the partners had selected for themselves.
