Am I just now realizing that Margaret was a character foil for Catherine and existed as a self-righteous know-it-all who wasn’t really righteous and didn’t know anything and who Catherine could hate and find faults in just so that we wouldn’t notice Catherine’s own faults, such as her self-righteous and know-it-all tendencies because the author didn’t want us to see how awful of a person she was until the very end when she decided to show her true self via murder? Yes. Yes, I am.
