So I've started to feel my familiar or animal guide would be a cat (cliche I know). I've just always felt attached to them and ever since I started sensing that I've been seeing a lot of cats come to my front door, is that a sign or a coincidence? Does the presence of or personal attachment to cats mean anything? Thanks in advance!
The cats coming to your door definitely could be a sign that youâre on the right track with feeling your connection to our feline friends! If you donât already have a cat as a pet, you could definitely adopt one or what would be even better would be to participate in a foster program. That way you can have a few cats come through your home, you can get to know them and their energy, and usually foster homes get first âdibsâ on adoptions so when a cat finds you that meshes well with your home, practice and energy, you can likely get first choice on that kitty. There are definitely deities that are connected to cats. The first one that comes to mind is Bastet. An Ancient Egyptian God. Personally, i donât work with any deities (yet) so I canât help much when it comes to how to go about working with Bastet, but you can definitely start reaching out to see if heâs trying to work with you. (or another cat-friendly deity)
Cats as animal guides or patronuses are lovely. They are wise, donât take crap, a bit aloof but crazy affectionate when they feel youâre trustworthy, wary of new situations or strangers, goofballs one minute, stoic the next. So if you feel cats are trying to guide you, you may need more of those traits in your life.Â
Hereâs my lovely familiar, Calcifer
Iâm going to write some cat care things here as well, since if you have a cat or are looking to adopt a cat, proper care will give you a much deeper understanding and connection.
- All cats should be indoor cats. For so. many. reasons. If you need clarification, let me know and I can point you in the right direction and give you more info. If your cat is getting good mental and physical stimulation indoors, they will be completely happy. Basically, if your cat isnât happy indoors, youâre falling short in some area of their care.
- Cats are /obligate/ carnviores. meaning their bodies cannot metabolize anything but animal parts. (bones, meat, organs, tissue etc.) All cats will do best on a prey model raw diet. If you want more info on raw diets, again, let me know.Â
- Have one litter box for each cat, plus one extra. So 1 cat=2 boxes, 3 cats=4 boxes. most cats prefer open boxes (not those ones that have a hood)
- Clicker training (or any sort of training) is great stimulation for kitties. They might not be as motivated to do the behaviours immediately and might take a little bit of time, but they can definitely be trained and they really enjoy it when they figure out what youâre asking them to do. Again, message me if you want tips in this area.
- Know when your cat has had enough. Learn their âwarning signs.â Just like dogs, cats have calming signals and will let you know when they donât want to continue. Tail thrashing, hunkered down, ears back or stiff are the most common ones. If you back off when your cat asks you to, youâll make your cat feel they can trust that youâll listen to them, and theyâll become much more tolerant of you. Thatâs all the tips I have for now. I hope you make some great kitty friends!
