white    clad    arms    cross,    though    not    a    single    wrinkle    dares    to    mar    the    pristine    fabric.    ❛❛    all    you    think    about    is    food.    ❜❜    huffed    as    icy    eyes    rolled,    a    spark    of    irritation    flashing.    he    doesn't    want    to    'get    this    over    with'    doesn't    even    want    to    stand    here    at    all,    trapped    in    this    suffocating    little    corner    of    obligation.    answering    useless    questions    about    an    even    more    useless    relationship,    every    word    more    hollow    than    the    last.    why    shang    de    picked    moon,    the    man    had    never    shared.    nice    tried    not    to    think    poorly    of    him    for    it.

he supposes it was only a matter of time until their tour landed in their hometown. while his other bandmates are excited to take some time to return home and visit their families, mydei finds himself hesitating. he hasn't been home since he dropped out of the conservatory, knowing that his father's rage waited for him if he ever came back. but he's in a better place now, right? he's successful now so he should be welcomed back...right?

a heavy sigh leaves his proud posture sagging just a little. he turns to hephaestion, his closest friend, who has already noticed his hesitance. " go on without me. i think i'll stay here and rest before the show tonight. " it's a lame excuse, one he's certain hephaestion sees through, but mydei can't bring himself to speak about his parents.

eyes close and yet there is immense pain under his pride facade. of course he knows her. he would know her voice anywhere the way they always haunted his dreams. her golden hair and strong build like the murals etched upon the walls of castrum kremnos. she is everywhere like a ghost but never in front of him, never where he has always longed for her to be.

" i do know you, mother. " his voice is rough but years of practice wading through the sea of souls has allowed him some vibrato when dealing with the dead. " i also know you're dead and this is just an illusion. "

"you flirt," she pushes his shoulder shyly, a flush taking to her cheeks. indeed, she did dress up for this evening's festival, quite an EFFORT put in by her maids when they heard the young lady was going to be out with her beau. they fussed with her for a good chunk of the afternoon, making sure her clothes were pristine and her makeup was just right. she knew yingxing probably didn't care too much about what she wore or how she did her hair or what brand of make up she used . . . but she also wanted to look her best for him tonight. it wasn't anything special, just a simple night festival and yet, maybe she just wanted to make sure ⸻ as selfish as it is ⸻ that he was only looking at her.
