He usually invites Alchemist along as his +1 or just a general invitation and while Al doesn't always accept, when he does, he has fun.

And by have fun I mean he does exactly the same thing I do at my Dad's art openings. He dresses nice, he picks one person he knows at the party to hang out with (9 times out of 10 it's Clayton, but I wouldn't doubt Scrapperton could make it to the guest list of a millionaire party or Ah-fei into a super-power type party) and just listens to the conversation. Occasionally introducing himself to someone he doesn't intend to speak to again. Which is fun.

Clay can use him as a conversation starter. "This is my friend Al, he's-" and he gets to gush about his best friend to whoever was dumb enough to get near them. Al can infodump too, because he's friends with probably the most high-status person therefore he can do what he wants

That being said I've never been to a real party before. I consider 3+ people at a place to be a party. Gallery openings don't count because rich people aren't real people and Art Galleries aren't real places.

I've seen "but who would watch the monkeys?!?" Used as a plot point to make Al hesitant to go to a party before. I think Al could figure something dependable out, and I think the shenanigans they get up to while Al is gone would make for an amazing B plot. While he's probably good at monkey-proofing, he's pit far too much faith in those rascals. Especially once they figure out how to unlock doors.
