tbh this goes for every (mental) illness. it's incredibly invalidating to have people with no real grasp of the subject go "hey, that sounds like me" or "i think i had that in highschool" or whatever when you share about your diagnoses and have gone/are going through hell because of them. the reality of having a disorder cannot be portrayed through wikipedia checklists or what have you.

yeah, definitely. opening up about your mental illness(es) and the symptoms that come w/ them can be scary enough as it is, so hearing someone go “oh, everyone feels like that sometimes!” or “yeah, sometimes i’m like that too” can feel super invalidating and disappointing, and feed into the fear that you’re faking symptoms, which i’m p sure is something that a lot of neurodivergent ppl fear.

n omg, absolutely! like someone who doesn’t have to deal w/ a particular mi wouldn’t be able to go through a checklist of symptoms on a website and figure out what the reality of living w/ a particular disorder is like, or go “oh, so this what everyone with depression/bpd/what have you go through“ because not everyone is going to show identical signs or even deal w/ the same exact symptoms.

and just... why would you rb sth thats not meant for you. why would you rb sth that is literally labeled "for ppl w bpd" & think that its ok bc what u have is ~close enough~. if you dont have a particular illness you cant rb things specific to that illness, end of
